Obama dethroned him & Cornel West from their self-appointed roles as the most influential black thought leaders. If this is true, he brought it on himself. This is just a continuation of "smart" men doing dumb things.

what is going on here? attacking Smiley? I used to love him and Cornel West on the radio. I'm as liberal, progressive, pluralistic person as they come. What's with the hate against West and Smiley?

Maybe DU is much more closed minded than I realized. maybe this is not the place for me.

I guess his ego wasn’t the only thing out of control.

In that regard, I guess I can't say I'm surprised by this. I'm glad President Obama kept his distance from this guy.

He's not an Obama hater. He critiqued Obama, but any good progressive would do so as well. He's been a major voice of the black community.
