As part of those efforts, former Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, only the countrys second elected black governor, was at Ebenezer to make the case for Mr. Jones. In the vestibule were stacks of sample ballots for the Democrat, whose smiling visage was on literature left on every car in the parking lot. A few blocks away, at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the site of Bloody Sunday in 1965, the message was starker: Vote or Die read a sign aimed at this regions black majority, whose turnout could decide the race.

But Mr. Joness campaign is highlighting Mr. Obama in another way. It has deluged black radio stations with commercials promoting Mr. Jones, one of which describes Mr. Moore as backed by the racist alt-right groups and brands him a birther, still insisting that Barack Obama was born in Kenya and isnt an American.
The commercials also highlight Mr. Joness tenure as a United States attorney in the 1990s, when he prosecuted the white supremacists who bombed the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, noting that he took on the Klan and got justice.

OMG. The maligned 'Liberals' did this not the tooted 'True Progressives'. We did not go in saying 'Look at Us", we treaded quietly and look at the results. We WON!
Brava and Bravo to the DNC that put the money there for the win and never asked for accolades for doing so.

(24,574 posts)As a southerner myself, I can tell you most of our citizens don't cotton to outsiders meddling in our business, especially those that can be labeled as "agitators." It's true even intrastate. Sending people from a big city into rural areas is greatly resented by the locals. It appears that the DNC knows how to give support and GOTV without the appearance of interference. I hope they have given AL and other states a blueprint they can follow in local and state elections.
Thanks for the thread, sheshe.

(83,786 posts)Good to here from a Southerner like you brer. Hot damn this race in Alabama was breathtaking along with being a nail biter. The DNC was awesome. The money, the quiet support and they were there as needed. They never took control. They let the candidate tell the message to his constituents. Holy shit, Jones delivered his message.

(83,786 posts)Democrats sure rocked the South.
Someone posted a blue and red map of Alabama today/ 2016/2017. Woah. I am seeing a lot of blue...sweet peaceful blue. Blue. I also saw that some posted that it was a fluke and will change in 2018...I for one think they are wrong. Think about it. The strongest candidate that the GOP had to run was a multiple accused pedophile that was banned from a mall for harassing children. Don't even get me going on the 'Reident. Family values my ass.
