gobsmack

Completely dumbfounded, shocked. From the Irish word "gob" meaning "mouth".

We were utterly gobsmacked when we spotted John at a restaurant on Friday night, after having attended his funeral that very morning!

I honestly think he believed that you have to swear on a bible in order to be sworn in as an official in public office. I think as Jake Tapper told him this, he had somebody in an earpiece or the studio telling him this was true and he was dumbfounded and processing it (and thus speechless).... Its like his head was exploding and all the beliefs were suddenly colliding with facts that didnt match and his poor little mind didn't know what to do....

It was priceless....

and state legislatures with. This is clearly the really stupid variety. Even worse are the venal types eager to sack and the extremist types eager to destroy and take over.

The GOP has not been able to get good people to run for a long time because they have agree to serve their donor class and its ultraconservative agenda. And they managed to purge all their principled people. The likes of the Susan Collinses and John McCains are not exceptions.

I've known many Jewish people over the years, and I've heard them say "Merry Christmas" especially to their Christian friends. Jewish people will usually wish "Happy Hannukah" to other Jews, but not to Christians.

I don't think the "Merry Christmas" greeting is something that people should be freaked out over. Anyone who prefers "Happy Holidays" is fine, I don't have a problem with it. I'm a Christian but I say "Happy Hannukah" to my Jewish friends when I see them. I think the intention should be to make the person feel comfortable and included. When you don't know the person's religion, it's probably safer to say "Happy Holidays."

Drives me crazy when so-called "Christians" (and I used to consider myself one) criticize us for using the greeting "Happy Holidays". It's just another way for them to demonstrate their bigotry, and they're too stupid (or uneducated) to understand the greeting.

Honestly, I have to stop reading about these people to keep my blood pressure from rising to unacceptable heights.

I'm not disputing that. I'm saying it's used more often as a polite greeting, rather than a statement of one's religious beliefs. OKay?

I've seen it in lots of places--Seth Meyers, David Pakman, etc.--and I chuckle every time. So no worries about re-posting it. Everyone needs to see it.

I kind of wish Tapper hadn't "rescued" him quite so quickly, and had just let him sit there and stare, dumbfounded for another second or two.
