Especially since we might be losing the internet as an accessible platform for organization and protest, maybe we really need to take more direct action against the rich and comforted who seem to be ruining things for the rest of us.
Protests in our public streets and malls is still valuable, but I'm wondering if our targets should start being where the rich and powerful rest. March on their gated communities, their mansions, their country clubs and restricted golf courses. Jam their fancy hotels and restaurants with crowds and shouts and signs.
We should start subjecting deep-pocketed lobbyists and CEOs with TMZ-like intrusive photography and catching them on video. Let everyone know the names and faces of the people screwing us over (especially since they generally like hiding in the shadows of the politicians they back).
And it might be an effective new avenue. Protesting in our downtowns possibly divides our society since it often irks or inconveniences the uninvolved or apolitical (Not that is a reason to stop doing it, but the alienation of potential allies should be considered). But almost no one has sympathy for the over-privileged.
Anyway, random thought of the day.

(94,597 posts)You didn't mention a specific issue, and you didn't mention why a hotel or country club would be a relevant location, other than that's where rich people are.
Economic envy will never be a strong rallying point.

(630 posts)But the people who are bankrolling the GOP can easily insulate themselves from a lot of the protests that take place. At least, it seems that way to me. Maybe they need to have their bubbles burst a bit and see the people who are being hurt up close and personal. Since they rarely come enter into the spheres below them, maybe everyone else should go to them.
In any case, it's admittedly not the most coherent idea. Just spitballing.
