Mueller would have to be incredibly politically naive or overly idealistic if he didn't think Trump attempting to fire him was a possibility. He just doesn't seem that way, based on how he has been operating. I'm sure he has some kind of plan in place. Now, whether said plan would work, I have no idea. hopefully Mueller has thought about the unthinkable. Otherwise, he'll go down in history as the Ned Stark of the tale of U.S. democratic decline.
