Humbug: deceptive or false talk or behavior.

When Scrooge says Christmas is a humbug, he is railing not against the holiday, but against the way people who suck all year put on a false demeanor of good will during the holiday. His belief is that people do this to fool their fellow man into trusting them based on lies.

The story of Scrooge’s redemption would not be possible were not the true goodness in people revealed to him through the visits of the three spirits. Those visits restored his faith in his fellow man and allowed him to get back in touch with his own humanity.

I agree with your assessment of Scrooge's transformation.
