One of the goals in war is to disarm the enemy

So I wonder when it's such an unquestionable and self evident action during a conflict to confiscate as many weapons from the enemy killing your soldiers, why is that not an obvious thing to do when 9000+ of your civilians are killed every year?

It's strange how the lives of soldiers are treated with more respect than the civilians they are supposed to protect.

After you destroy the enemy, you may collect his weapons. Hell, we even dug body parts out of blown NVA bunkers to collect weapons and find the Chinese advisor's radio and codes.

But disarming the enemy was not a goal. The only goal was to destroy him. To kill him. Everything else was secondary. And disarming him didn't even figure into the equation.
