Sorry! Just found the answer
How do we know he's voting yes? Because he said he'd vote NO!
Even this gold-plated anal sphincter, who is not running again and who has no "political risk" to consider, just couldn't pass up an opportunity to screw America ONE MORE TIME!
He rationalized his decision after declaring he would not vote for any tax bill that adds to the deficit. He said all bills are imperfect and said he has weigh whether it did more good than harm. He said it did and said he would vote for it.

(51,594 posts)I would think their name would be the UNhappy Tones. Thanks for posting it. I googled it and it is now my own personal theme song! I have been singing/ranting a similar version of it for most of my life. The tune and my own lyrics vary slightly to keep it current.

(35,340 posts)I did a quick calculation and it looks like I will save $72 a month or $864 a year. I suppose there will be some that may pay more, I don't know. First of all I don't want a tax cut it is only stealing money from future generations. I am almost 70 years old myself, most people I talk to my age don't give a damn about future generations. I mean even if you tell them it will result in cuts to SS and Medicare they say "It won't affect us". I think if most people save a few bucks from this tax plan the Republicans will hold the congress and Trump will get re-elected.

(54,770 posts)legislation is going to be popular with a lot of people who just look at their paycheck and nothing more (and that's a lot of people on "both sides" . It might hurt Medicare, Medicaid, etc., through budget cuts, but a lot of folks aren't going to feel that, so many don't care.
In the compromise they've reversed or mitigated a number of the things most people criticized that were in the original House and Senate versions.
Obviously, some folks, perhaps a lot, will be ticked they didn't raise taxes on the wealthy. They did raise them on those with taxable incomes over about $157,000 a little bit depending upon how much more. Those with taxable incomes over $500,000 got a little cut, unless they lost some big deductions like state income taxes.
In fact, I think that would have made more sense and will probably be required if Democrats do well in 2018 and 2020. Unfortunately, not sure criticism of this tax plan is going to be a strong point for us.
Point is, it's going to be hard appealing to ignorant GOPers or those who lean right, that this plan will hurt them. There will be a number of Democrats who say, meh or it wasn't as bad as all the fuss. I think it does hurt us, but not in a way that is obvious to many.
Here's a pretty summary of the "compromise:"

(35,340 posts)This is how it affects me I am on SS, I am getting a $32 COLA increase next year. But next year Medicare part B increases $25 and the Medicare Advantage Plan I get from my Union is going up $10. As you see I will come out $3 short next year. If I get a $72 tax cut
I will get $69 more a month to live on. Like I said I don't need or want a tax cut. But it seems most Americans
don't consider the consequences, they get a few bucks they will be happy. I don't think this will be any kind of issue
for Democrats to run on next year. Unless there are millions more than I think have their taxes increased.

(5,126 posts)If the question is "Will this tax bill be a winner or loser issue for Dems in the mid-terms?" The answer, IMHO is that it is all about how they frame it. CBO scores and analysis by economists in future weeks will tell more of the story of the final bill.
I honestly don't know what the tax consequences will be for my family and I understand what you're saying. If someone is only looking at the extra $70 that they will get and not the big picture (possible reduction of SS, Medicare, safety net, services, etc that the Rs want to enact) or the impact on younger generations, I could see Dems arguments against the tax bill as a loser to those voters, even if those in the top rates are getting disproportionate benefits.
"Society grows great when old men (and women) plant trees whose shade they will never sit in." Unfortunately that social contract between generations isn't focused on enough.
However, the fact that it is adding so much to the deficit should be used by dems to show that the Republicans should never get away with claiming to be the party of "fiscal responsibility". Over the last 40 years, it has been R administrations that have harmed the economy and greatly increased the deficit. It has been D administrations that have fixed the economy and either balanced the budget or decreased the deficit.
The elimination of the estate tax should also be framed and argued better by dems. In Ohio, the elimination of the estate tax led to reductions of State funds for local Governments and schools. Local Governments and Schools have had to go to voters for property tax increases to make up the deficit. Levies for schools, police and fire, roads, parks, etc. have been abnormally abundant in recent years. This is trickle down tax burden and a redistribution of wealth from the top to the bottom.
I heard someone on Morning Joe this morning, I don't know who - I was getting ready for work and wasn't watching, but they made a great point. They said in regard to the estate tax that our Country was founded by rejecting a monarchy which is inherited wealth and power. Dems need to frame the estate tax as patriotic, fair and good for our Country.
