July 22, 2012: The day Bill Kristol jumped the freeper shark. They're not gonna like this at ALL.

Bill Kristol: People don’t have a right to assault rifles

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/07/22/bill-kristol-people-dont-have-a-right-to-assault-rifles/

Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol on Sunday broke with fellow conservatives and backed restrictions the sales of “assault weapons” like the AR-15 that was allegedly used to kill at least 12 people and wound 58 others in Aurora, Colorado last week.

“People have a right to handguns and hunting rifles,” Kristol told Fox News host Chris Wallace. “I don’t think they have a right to semi-automatic, quasi-machine guns that can be used to shoot a hundred bullets at a time.”

“And I actually think the Democrats are being foolish as they’re being cowardly,” he added. “I think there is more support for some moderate forms of gun control if they separated clearly from a desire to take away everyone’s handguns or rifles.”

“And you could put more pressure on moderate Republicans than people think. It’s not as if Republicans from New York and Illinois and California couldn’t — that President Obama couldn’t do what President Clinton did and put pressure on them [to pass an assault weapons ban]. President Obama on this one is just unwilling to take a strong stance.”

and it is total bullshit because of it.

Not a word about Romney speaking out, nothing attacking the NRA, etc.

Pathetic attempt to try and blame the Dems for this, imo.

So maybe he actually means it? The Right will probably accuse him of covering for Obama by making it easy for him now to speak out on the subject.

Isn't it sad that we are all so cynical we simply cannot just try to solve the very major problems we have in this society?

Had he called for both the repubs and the Democrats to look at gun control, I would not have posted my comment. He did not. It has not been the Democrats who have been against gun control, ie Clinton administration, it has been the repubs all the way yet Kristal made NO mention of them. Good reason to be cynical, imo.

Edited to add: Lest we forget, Krystal was one of the founders of PNAC, Project for the New American Century.

has always puzzled me, but then so have so many of them. I was just pointing out that he did ask Romney to reveal his taxes. Who knows what he is up to, maybe just likes to hear himself talk. I trust no one who was part of the criminal organization known as the PNAC. All of them belong in jail imho.

I am sure Dems would have an easy time proposing "moderate forms of gun control" that Kristol's friends would not consider a "desire to take away everyone’s handguns or rifles"

from Pres. Obama, what kind of la, la land does Mr. Kristol live in these days.

What "moderate Republicans" does he have in mind. I'd like him to come up with a list, and why doesn't HE encourage his own party to do something if he believes it is so do-able.????

A Democrat would be eviscerated if he/she tried. I'm sure Bill knows this and will be making a call to Speaker Boehner Monday morning first thing. Right?
