Donald Trump is publicly considering firing special counsel Robert Mueller, the person leading the Department of Justice investigation of possible illegal actions by Donald Trump and members of his presidential campaign, and the efforts to conceal those activities.
This would be a constitutional crisis for our country. It would demand an immediate and unequivocal response to show that we will not tolerate abuse of power from Donald Trump.
Our response in the minutes and hours following a power grab will dictate what happens next, and whether Congressthe only body with the constitutional power and obligation to rein Trump in from his rampagewill do anything to stand up to him.
That's why we're preparing to hold emergency "Nobody is Above the Law" rallies around the country in the event they are needed.
Use the map or search below by ZIP code to find an event near you, or create one if none exists.
Rallies will begin hours after news breaks of a Mueller firing:
If Mueller is fired BEFORE 2 P.M. local time > events will begin @ 5 P.M. local time
If Mueller is fired AFTER 2 P.M. local time > events will begin @ noon local time the following day
This is the general planplease confirm details on your event page, as individual hosts may tailor their events to their local plan.

Thank you for posting this!
I would like to mention that I am signed up for Dixon, IL, the hometown of Reagan. We have active groups all over that area.

(92 posts)I'm fairly new to DU as far as commenting, but myself and my friends and family have said since day 1 that Trump would seize complete power and hold Congress hostage as long as he could. I have zero faith that this Republican Congress will act on behalf of the people. They've proven time after time they will not. The checks and balances set up to prevent tyranny only work if those we trust to enact them are willing to do so.
We have a Republican Congress with little to no integrity. Those who are at least somewhat honorable are going to quit or die. Many are simply setting themselves up for the future and trying to get their names in the history books. Others put on a show of dissent for appearances, so they can say they tried to stop this, but ultimately cave and toe the line. In my 43 years this is the only time I've ever been truly concerned for my future and that of our country. Our allies have abandoned us on the world stage and we have a cancer within our borders that has been growing for decades. Seems it finally got noticed, but it may be too late.

(90,705 posts)The hills are scorched and blackened, but the trees remain. It was like our little space had a flash fire of fast-burning wild grasses for the most part. Our neighborhood lost only one house -- my SIL looked it up on Google Maps (?) satellite photos from before. The one house we lost was closely surrounded by shrubbery and overhanging trees, she said, a prime target. All that is left is some metal framework. I don't know the houses on our street that well yet, but I think she's right. All of us lost some landscaping to one degree or another. Our property lost a bit of the hedge on one side, all the dry leaves under the oak, some random bushes that were weirdly burned to twigs one one side and all crispy brown leaves on the other. But the house itself is on a large concrete pad -- that is, surrounded by lanais and a sweeping driveway. We have concrete roof tiles. I need to write a Christmas card to the elderly couple that built it 30 years ago and sold it to us this year. Still, luck could have gone the other way. There are entire neighborhoods gone.

(108,978 posts)I hope when people rebuild they put on roofs like yours, or metal roofs. The building codes should be adjusting to the new reality.

(90,705 posts)Some things can be retrofitted -- after the Northridge Earthquake a hella lot of public buildings were retrofitted. Older homes depend on homeowners, though. Wooden shake shingles used to be popular, but most people seem to have given them up. About 30 years ago there was a fire in one LA neighborhood where destruction of houses seemed almost random. Aerial photos showed the fire had hopped from one wooden roof to another, avoiding other materials.
There's a continuous effort to educate people about "defensible space" and "defensible landscaping;" there's County regs about "weed abatement" around houses in rural and semirural areas, especially in the urban-wildland interface as population grows. Weed abatement is important because they grow tall, dry out fast, and are flammable as hell.
It's all in where you live. I'm sure if I went to live in New Orleans I'd be innocent as a lamb and dumb as mud about their weather and geology.
Gods it is good to be home again. Sorry if I seem to be babbling. I am relieved and tired and looking forward to my own bed.
