Joy Reid: Seems Like Trump 'Has the Tools of Authoritarianism Down'

by Josh Feldman | 7:37 pm, December 15th, 2017

During a discussion on President Trump‘s comments slamming the FBI, MSNBC’s Joy Reid said it looks like President Trump is getting more familiar with “the tools of authoritarians.”

The President slammed the FBI today amid continuing coverage of anti-Trump texts sent by two FBI agents and questions being raised about bias at the FBI and in the Mueller investigation. Fox News’ coverage of this has gotten criticism elsewhere for going overboard in blasting the FBI.

Reid today noted to Chris Matthews how Trump likes leaders such as Vladimir Putin and said, “It does seem that Donald Trump has the tools of authoritarianism down.” She continued:

“Step one: claim the investigation of you is a fraud being conducted by enemies of the state. Step two: get your state-run media… to echo that into your base and whip that up into a frenzy against those investigating you. Step three: get the state party––in this case, the Republican party––to echo that from the seat of government and say, ‘Wait a minute, the people investigating the president are themselves criminals.' And lastly, she concluded, is “call[ing] for the prosecution of your political enemies.”

I am just hoping that Joy would not be "endangered" by her sharp criticisms of you-know-who. Just a gut feeling. She can't be one of the White House's favorites!
