In a 90-minute briefing on Thursday, policy analysts at the nation's leading public health institute were presented with the menu of seven banned words, an analyst told the paper. On the list: "diversity," "fetus," "transgender," "vulnerable," "entitlement," "science-based" and "evidence-based."
Alternative word choices reportedly were presented in some cases. For instance, in lieu of "evidence-based" or "science-based," an analyst might say, "CDC bases its recommendations on science in consideration with community standards and wishes," the source said. But those working on the Zika virus's effect on developing fetuses may be at a loss for appropriate -- or acceptable -- words.

(6,235 posts)My reaction was that this is [expletive deleted] too, but then I thought differently about it.
Considering who is going to be reviewing the budget documents, and that so many of them love nothing more than to home in on a term and then hijack the conversation by debating that term until the cows come home, I think this order can actually be a huge benefit to CDC. By finding someone (or several someones) who can take medical terminology and translate it into fifth-grade English, and therefore reducing the possibility that someone will hijack the discussion, I think CDC will be ahead of the game. And it is a game, one that politicians love to play.
I just sent CDC a note to this effect, but don't believe for a split second that whoever gets it will pass the idea along. Oh, well, that's how it is, but I did it anyway.

(6,073 posts)They make unreasonable and arbitrary demands that force people to debase and humiliate themselves. Then they see who has the stones to stand up to them and who knuckles under. Then they do it again.
Who knows, Omarosa might end up being a heroic figure because she said "no" to that crap. Stranger things have happened.
