Rubio Says GOP Will Move Next on Social Security

December 16, 2017 at 11:59 am EST By Taegan Goddard

“Advocates for seniors and the middle class have been warning for weeks that the Republican drive to cut taxes for the wealthy is the prelude to a larger attack on Social Security and Medicare,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) admitted as much in an interview with Politico: “We have to do two things. We have to generate economic growth which generates revenue, while reducing spending. That will mean instituting structural changes to Social Security and Medicare for the future.”

“The only thing that’s new here is the explicit admission by a Republican officeholder that this is the GOP’s master plan to eviscerate the welfare and retirement of American workers. Budget analysts have seen it coming with all the subtlety of a freight train.”

It would be IF we were voting in "fair" elections, but we aren't.

thuglicans are in control of collecting and counting votes. Do you trust them to play fair? I sure as hell don't. Hell, many side with the ruskies over their OWN IC agencies, and don't CARE if the ruskies continue on meddling in our elections. And, with the ruling coming down from a 5-4 right-winged High Court in 2018 which will more than likely state that thuglicans CAN continue on with gerrymandering in Wisconsin, it's Katy bare the door all across this country for Dems. It's bad enough that the GOP IS getting away with voter-suppressing Dems off of the chain (voter cross-check, voter-purging, expanding voter ID laws which ALL hurt Dems etc.), but now they're gonna make it REALLY personal by turning Dems into the permanent minority party.

Republicans no longer give a hoot about what might be dangerous. Cult45 have already tried to destroy healthcare, and now, they’ve got their “tax cut”: $$$$$ to the “ruling class.”

With all three branches of government in their control, and their useful bully/idiot/psycho/mother-of-all-distractions “president,” it’s party time and they don’t give a shit who knows about it. To them, Social Security and Medicare look like two fat Honey Baked Hams ready to be sliced and sent lovingly upstream as holiday fodder for their oligarch masters.

Like Collins, Murkowski, and Flake are on board with this nonsense. I get that some Republican senators are awful people, but (erroneously apparently) thought there were a handful of principled Republicans who would vote in the best interest of their constituents, not to mention the country.

Making "entitlements" sound like welfare. How about those corporate "entitlements?"

Bringing the hammer down on the runaway big Pharma costs apparently not on their radar to help the economics of health programs.

Kicking out young immigrants who want to work and build families who will nourish Social Security also in their blindspots.

Bringing wages to family-sustaining level is abhorrent, despite the fact that standard payroll deductions would shore up SS while bringing enough income to support a family.

Unions??? Forget about it.

These people are so greedy and evil I can no longer say that they do not understand what they do. They understand, alright and have been boiling since FDR, passing down their hatred and ignorance to the likes of Ryan.

And, it would split the opposition. Dems who are unaffected vs Dems who are affected.
