Really scary stuff was discussed as Trump moves our government from a democracy to an autocracy.
I'll stand by my initial comments of the Nov 2016 election that gave us Trump. We experienced a coup d'etat. What we are watching now are the moves Trump & the Repugs are doing now to move this coup along.
Now don't get me wrong - no one on AM Joy said the word coup - but if you read between the lines one could figure out what they were eluding to. Oops - Malcom Nance just said the word coup. Trump is dismantling the constitution.
Now I know why some people watch the Hallmark Channel. Happy Endings. Something we won't experience with Trump.

(7,947 posts)I thought that the discussion of the "banned words" (transgender, vulnerable, etc) was interesting, the way they connected it to Orwell and the methods of autocrats.
What is really terrifying is that the GOP have all fallen in line. I haven't heard even one pushback from a Republican. I understand that it's almost too horrifying, but Lindsey Graham and the others are enthusiastically supporting the idea of firing the guy who is investigating The Leader.

(7,768 posts)Joy showed the moveon plan to take to the streets! Think about that. A Sunday news show is showing the plan for people to take to the fucking streets! Holy shit.
I was watching Joy's eyes that entire segment. I was watching everyone's eyes. They're frightened.
This is fucking happening. This is real. As Malcolm said, "Our Republic is under attack".

(58,785 posts)is mainly that many of our systems depend on a certain amount of traditions of behavior that are not actually codified into law. Republican and Democratic senators told Nixon he had to resign, not the law, and he understood that that had become necessary according to traditional principles, not by law.
Hillary supported Trump's inauguration by attending it because supporting our constitutional transfer of power is what our leaders do, not because she was required by law.
Thousands of principled traditions from the top of our government to the bottom (WH housekeepign staff never gossip) have developed over more than 200 years out both belief and need for them. They're critical to principled functioning, but Trump's administration regards the few they're forced to become aware of with contempt.
But, trampling on them is not the same as dismantling the constitution and depowering our third branch of government. They and it stand and are enormously powerful.
(Btw, we still don't know why he immediately fired the WH's chief usher on moving in. She's not talking. But I'd bet a bunch he demanded something that duty required her to refuse.)
