I still can't understand why the Obama Administration kept renewing these monster's USDA license. Alabama has had quite a week!

Nosey the elephant’s owners arrested on animal cruelty charges

.....snip....

PETA Foundation Director of Animal Law Jared Goodman issued the following statement regarding their arrest.

“Cruelty charges are well-deserved for the notorious animal abusers who left Nosey tightly chained, confined in her own waste, and without proper shelter—the very neglect that she’s endured in their custody for years, before she was finally confiscated last month by Alabama officials. Local authorities were correct to stand up to cruelty and seize Nosey, whose fate is still to be determined by the court. PETA will continue to fight for her until she’s permanently retired to a spacious sanctuary home.”

On Friday, Testimony went well into regarding the future of Nosey the elephant. Nosey was seized by animal control officers near Moulton earlier this year after a vehicle pulling the elephant’s trailer broke down.

There have been years of complaints about Nosey and the manner in which she is treated. Many people watching the case are curious to see if Nosey will be returned to her owner.

Friday saw a full day and evening of testimony regarding the care and condition of the animal.

Nosey was seized on November 9th after spending several days standing in a small trailer on the side of the road near Moulton. She was sent to The Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee pending the outcome of legal efforts to take her from her owner, Hugo Liebel, of Florida. Liebel has owned the elephant for some 34 years.

Animal rights activists maintain the elephant has a long history of abuse and neglect, and has otherwise led a very hard life.

“My concerns are that since 1994, if you look at the exhibits that were entered, the USDA has cited Liebel for the same violations, which are what we would call direct violations which directly affect her health and well being, and also the safety of the public,” according to Denise Gaug of the group Save Nosey Now. She added, “Insufficient barriers to contain an elephant puts the public at risk. Exposure to TB puts the public at risk, not to mention the inhumane conditions in which she’s been kept for over 30 years.” Gaug says Nosey has become the poster child for animal rights efforts regarding circus animals and other exotic animals hired out for show and display.

And here's a big FU to everybody who said we were overreacting & that Nosey was "loved and well taken-care of." Thank you to the Lawrence County DA & The Elephant Sanctuary for taking Nosey in and giving her a chance at a real life--a life free from cruelty, slavery & torture, a life that she should have had all along.

scum of the earth Mfer's

If that court even hints at returning this precious animal to these monsters, PETA must step in with all available tools to see this elephant gets a peaceful and happy existence at a sanctuary.

This kind of stuff makes me sick to my stomach.

Help.

I love animals, especially elephants and donate to the elephant sanctuary in Tennessee, in addition to PETA. I hate seeing them abused. Glad these frickin circuses closed down.

Actress Carol Burnett pens letter about elephant seized in Lawrence County

....snip...

More than 14,000 people fighting for Nosey have signed a petition to stop the automatic renewal of Liebel's USDA license for 2018.

Burnett's letter to Lawrence County commissioners states:

Dear Lawrence County Commissioners,

I was so thrilled to hear from my friends at PETA that Nosey has been transported to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!

Nosey's tragic story very recently compelled me to record a PSA for PETA urging for her retirement and encouraging kind people everywhere to act in her behalf to give her the chance of living a happy life in a sanctuary. She has been on the road nearly since her infancy. She has worked, day in and day out, carrying people on her back and performing difficult tricks under the threat of a bullhook. Her "home" on the road has been a dark, cramped trailer or the end of a chain. She deserves so much more—as do all other elephants.

I recorded this PSA mere weeks ago, when I didn't think anyone in a position to help Nosey cared—so it warms my heart to see that Lawrence County does.

I hope Nosey is able to live permanently at The Elephant Sanctuary—where she can be with other elephants, unbridled by chains, and enjoy the simple pleasure of feeling the grass beneath her feet and the sun on her back—and that she may continue to roam its vast acreage for the remainder of her years. There's a chance that Nosey's story will have a happy ending—and who doesn't love a happy ending?

Sincerely yours,

Carol Burnett

Another court date for the seizure of Nosey has not yet been set, according to officials.

Liebel has received 200 citations for violating the federal Animal Welfare Act, including for "chaining Nosey so tightly that she could barely move and repeatedly denying her adequate veterinary care," PETA stated in a release.

Why does it not surprise me that asshole Joe the Plumber on his site "Joe for America" ( ) would support animal abusers? Here's the title, but I can't bring myself to paste any of the heinous article or publicize his hatefest site.
