The city where Jesus grew up canceled Christmas because of Trump

The mayor of Nazareth is canceling Christmas, and he's blaming Donald Trump.

Ali Salam, who is Muslim in the Muslim-majority city, shut down all Christmas festivities in the city in protest of Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.

“Our identity and faith aren’t up for debate,” Salam said, according to the Times of Israel. “The decision (by Trump) has taken away the joy of the holiday, and we will thus cancel the festivities this year.”

The city council was the bearer of the bad news Thursday after the mayor made the economically risky decision. Religious tourists flock to the city where Jesus grew up, especially for the Christmas holiday.

Collective, communal punishment. Very Ottoman of him.

James F. Strange, an American archaeologist, notes: "Nazareth is not mentioned in ancient Jewish sources earlier than the third century CE.
... artifacts uncovered from the area ... dated by historians, or by using radiocarbon dating, none are known to predate the 2nd century AD.

to the supposed location in the 4th century. Of course, you first need to invent the location.

Another contradiction is that there are no hills around the supposed Nazareth, yet the Buybull tells us that when Jesus visited his home town he pissed off the inhabitants who took him to a high hill with the intention of throwing him down.

Also of interest is the idea that “Jesus of Nazareth” had nothing at all to do with a town. Rather, Jesus was a member of the sect known as the Nazarenes.

Doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things as the chances that an actual Jesus ever lived are probably less than 1%.

Not true!

I worked with a Jesus Mendoza in San Diego back in the 1990's.

Oh, you meant Jesus Christo?

to someone living in a relatively flat place. I live near a "mountaintop" in Delaware, where there is a great view of the bridge that goes over the river and the relative valley beneath. It is like a slight grade for about a quarter of a mile to someone from out west.

need special pleading and/or a stretch-the-imagination explanation to remain in the realm of “facts?”

Of course, once such a Biblical “fact”has been proven to be entirely laughable, the apologists move it into the “metaphor” column.

"Nazareth Mayor Ali Salam decided Thursday to keep most Christmas festivities intact despite anger over US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital."

"After the press conference, it was erroneously reported that Salam had canceled the Christmas Market. But, according to the Al-Arab website, the municipality issued a statement denying this. It said that “the cancellation only applies to artistic performances on stages,” and that outdoor stalls would remain, the lighting of the Christmas tree will take place Sunday as scheduled, programs in the Old City will proceed, and a parade will be held on December 23."

Why are Drumpf's actions supposed to close down Christmas for any Christians that live there?

It would be interesting to know what the reaction of those Christians was. Obviously, they are not constrained from attending Christmas mass or having celebrations in their homes. However, even IF the performances done every year were to attack tourists from around the world, they might also have become things people living there look forward to. That would not mean that they are either happy or angry over Trump's action.

While the majority of Palestinians are Moslem, there is a minority who are Christian.

but claims the joy is taken out of a holiday he does not recognize. Further, the dispute is with Israel, a Jewish state, not a Christian one. Very odd.
