The final bill cuts taxes on beer, wine, and liquor. The Brookings Institute estimates that will lead to 1,550 more alcohol-related deaths each year. The study found that lower alcohol prices are directly correlated to more purchases and a higher death toll.

The military used to give troops a daily ration of alcohol. And US military practically gave away
booze at the Officer's and NCO clubs. Huge bottles of booze, dirt cheap. Same principle you describe.

(50,566 posts)Put bottle in freezer. Remove when you want to drink. Eat a pickle after every shot. Put the bottle back in the freezer when you've forgotten who the president is. Do not put empty bottles in the freezer because there's no point. (Come to think of it, don't worry about putting the bottle back. It'll never happen.)
And never, ever drink without a reason. If you have no reason to drink, drink pivo.

(10,584 posts)Corporations get a tax cut, the owners of the companies make more - they won't cut the price - this is a raise for CEO's and the wealthy, not a commerce bill.

(10,584 posts)Per CNN:
http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/16/news/beer-wine-whiskey-tax/index.html
It's unlikely the tax savings will be passed along to the consumer in the form of a price reduction on beer, wine or spirits. Business owners are looking to reinvest the savings.
"Any money we would save we would just invest right back into the company in terms of equipment, and we would hire more people," said Tom Lix, co-owner and founder of Cleveland Whiskey, a distillery employing 15 people that was recently toured by Senator Rob Portman of Ohio, lead sponsor of the amended bill.
