Do you respect your congressmen?

I don't have much respect for mine. I'm just curious how other DU'ers feel.

One of only 2 in this area (the other being Patrick Murphy) who originally endorsed Obama. He is on MSNBC alot, so at least he is out there pushing the agenda...

I know that in the past, one of his biggest efforts was gun control (mostly due to a period when the gun violence was running rampant in many cities), so it will be interesting to see what he might say in the coming days.

down. At the time, US seemed a better choice and in the early years it made a lot of sense. Now in retrospect the other choice would have been better. Never, did I ever ever imagine we would see the US where it is today.

Exactly, bring big bucks today if you want to move. I don't even know if we've yet seen how mad the US is going to get.

Growing up during the end of WWII I have some pretty vivid memories of how bad some countries can get. I can just imagine where the US will end if teabaggers, for example, got to run the entire place. I also think a lot of Americans are very naive and quite ignorant as to how bad things could get with the wrong people in power.

Not unless Lynn Jenkins gets a sex change and becomes Len Jennings.

It is kinda amazing to me, because there are not many people capable of being elected to Congress. It's a fairly elite group. Yet it is strange that we don't end up with better people. Is Lynn Jenkins really the best that Republicans can offer in the 2nd district?

I mean, I know Republicans locally, many of whom are decent, hard-working, honest, compassionate, informed, intelligent, etc. Yet Jenkins seems to be none of those things. Yet, there she sits, in an important and well-paid position. It's bizarre. It's not even that she's a Republican, but just that she seems so lacking in any virtue. What is it about the political system that allows somebody like that to rise to the top?

Here is his take on defense: I am for peace, and I am for diplomacy, but our foreign policy has to be based on reality. And the reality is that North Korea has nuclear weapons; Iran is rapidly developing a nuclear program; China is building its military and showed the world that it is ready to wage war in space; terrorist groups like al Qaeda are looking for every chance to do us harm. And nothing on Russia Dr. Fearmonger? You are slipping in your diatribe.
This is from his homepage as well: Al Qaeda thrives on poverty, despair, violence and fear. The bottom line is they cannot afford for freedom to succeed. Conversely, we cannot afford to allow freedom to fail. Military decisions should be made on sound strategy, not politics. Sounds like the consevative mantra, "thrives on poverty, despair, violence and fear"!
