Gov. John Kasich's budget includes sales-tax increase of nearly $1.5 billion
Source: Columbus Dispatch
Ohio Gov. John Kasichs budget bid to decrease income taxes by 23 percent while tacking an additional half-cent onto the sales tax would deliver a few hundred dollars in tax savings for many Ohio families.
But, the savings would be less for low-income families since they pay little income tax and spend a larger percentage of their income on sales taxes than more-fortunate Ohioans.
Kasich unveiled the latest step toward his goal of eliminating the state income tax on Monday when he rolled out his recommendations for the $72.3 billion state budget for the two years beginning June 30.
Atop previously announced increases in the value of personal exemptions for those earning less than $80,000 a year and elimination of income taxes on many small business owners, the Republican proposed an across-the-board cut.

That is the SMALL BUSINESSes these guys are helping.
It's not your local Ace Hardware Store or Pizza Parlor.

(42,287 posts)So our income taxes have gone down, BUT our income taxes are up, our city and school district have to beg for more money to run basic services...plus we aren't going to hire any new employees (we're one-person businesses, no need or room for that!) and I'd be happy with 5% of $2 million!
But boy, howdy, does the Columbus Disgrace love him!

(11,076 posts)He cut the State budget on his first time around and forced the municipalities to pick up the bill. He ignored the deliberate contamination of Lake Erie, tried to sell the water, promoted fracking on private and public lands, stole the profits form the State Alcohal agency and gave them to a private organization that he and his cronies created. He paid a friend from CA a dollar to run Jobs Ohio and that is pretty much it! In an effort to keep Medicaid folks out of nursing homes he designed a plan to have home health workers visit the elderly in their homes. He then proceeded to drag his feet paying the minimum wage home health workers! Workers who are living pay check to paycheck are now unable to pay the rent....and the dominos continue to fall!
He refused to debate his oponant this fall and used corporate monies to flood the TV ads. The voting districts have been so distorted that while we have more registered Dems than R's it is pretty impossible to win an election.
Next stop is a presidential run so look out folks. This is a one man wrecking ball. His backers have deep pockets.

I voted against the anti-labor Republican.
Their answer is still trickle down economics and less regulation.

Even if the elections are 'fair', pretty soon the morons voting against President Obama are going to realize their choices, like Kasich, put us all in a world of hurt.

Utterly amazing that anyone falls for this FairTax-lite crapola. If idle rich conservatives had their way, the IRS would be abolished (getting rid of their two biggies - the Capital Gains and Estate taxes) and the taxation burden would fall on those who consume the most - the middle/working/poor.
