SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Northern California got a break Saturday from a wet and windy storm that downed trees and power lines, ripped through freeway and street signs and led to dozens of flight cancellations at San Francisco's airport.
But that break was expected to be short-lived, as another storm system barreled toward the region with more rain and wind.
The sun peeked through the clouds on Saturday in San Francisco, where scattered showers were expected throughout the day. The next storm system was forecast to hit on Sunday morning, bringing wind gusts as high as 45 mph and up to 3 inches of additional rain on coastal hills in the San Francisco Bay Area and another 1.5 inches on Bay Area cities.
"The winds will be up again, especially along the coast," said Austin Cross, a forecaster with the National Weather Service.

(20,877 posts)I guess this snapped San Francisco's no rain in January situation. They really need rain in SF ---> south and southeast right now!

(19,459 posts)And we sure do need the rain.
Also reminded me of how fortunate I am to have the material comforts I do. Those without adequate shelter are especially vulnerable and needful during bad weather. Remember your local shelter facilities and organizations. They can always use some help, financial or otherwise, especially at times like these.

(348 posts)We used the break in weather to drive down to Chico (70 miles) in order to purchase a generator. Power went out Friday morning at 930am and isn't expected back on until Sunday at 1130pm at the earliest. Usually we just put the food outside because these storms are cold, but we ran up into the mid 50s today. So, generator time. Plus we can watch Walking Dead's return tomorrow.
