Gas explosion in Mexico caused by worn bolts on gas truck

Source: AP

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican officials said Monday that two worn-out bolts on a gas tanker truck broke, causing a leak that resulted in a hospital explosion that killed five people last month.

The results of the investigation again highlighted the unsafe conditions that many propane tankers operate under.

The failure "was caused by (metal) fatigue on the bolts due to a lack of proper maintenance," said Mexico City chief prosecutor Rodolfo Rios.

When the two bolts on a pipe flange connected to the truck's pump cracked, a gasket partially blew out, allowing gas to accumulate on the hospital grounds for about 25 minutes.

Mexican officials said Monday, Feb. 16, 2015 that two worn-out bolts on the gas tanker truck caused a leak that resulted in the explosion. Experts said wire and Teflon tape had been improperly used on parts of the truck's valves, and Mexico City chief prosecutor Rodolfo Rios said one of the bolts was the wrong size, and the truck's gas meter had been altered to shortchange customers. Ask anyone who tries to operate a business in that country.

I know I've read many times it was a Mexican company founded in 1939 who provide coverage to 80% of the national territory, I'm not disputing that, it just caught my eye and I'm curious if anyone knows why.

None of the Mexican stories that I have seen mention Nationwide.

Staging the largest U.S. oil workers' walkout in 36 years, thousands are demanding protections from some of world's most powerful oil giants.

by Sarah Lazare, staff writer
February 08, 2015

The biggest U.S. oil workers' strike in more than three decades just grew even larger, with two mid-western BP plants joining in the work stoppage to demand basic health and safety protections from some of the world's most powerful fossil fuel corporations.

The United Steelworkers announced Saturday that over 1,400 employees at two BP refineries—in Whiting, Indiana and Toledo, Ohio—have joined the 3,800 oil workers on strike at nine refineries in California, Kentucky, Texas and Washington.

The workers at the new sites officially began their work action at 12:01 Sunday morning, according to the union.

America's Mass Media is doing an excellent job with these sorts of distractions...

Oh, look at those Mexicans! You know how they are! (wink, wink..)

The U.S.A. has a lot in common with Mexico. Our corporate and political crap smells just as bad as theirs, the difference is we fling a lot of our crap over the border too, especially the most violent sort.

The U.S.A. is not and has never been a "first world" nation. We are a "developing" nation (to put it euphemistically) with nukes, a big military, and the baddest bankers.

We are the top banana republic of all the banana republics.

Here's a video of U.S.A. negligence:

And wait, isn't there something going on in West Virginia right fucking NOW?

More crap, but let's blame the workers, not the corner cutting uber-wealthy rat bastards running the big show.
