Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) A grand jury in North Carolina indicted a man Monday on three counts of murder in the shootings of three young Muslims in what authorities have said was a dispute over parking spaces.
Television stations WRAL and WTVD reported a grand jury in Durham County handed up the indictments Monday for 46-year-oldCraig Hicks.
No one answered a phone call from The Associated Press at the courthouse, which closed midday for an impending ice and snowstorm.
Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23; his wife, Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, 21; and her sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19, were all found dead in their Chapel Hill condominium last week. Hicks was their neighbor, and others who lived nearby said he had frequent problems with where people parked in the complex near the University of North Carolina.

With all the anger directed at Hicks I have seen no one here assign any resposibility to the gun industry who manipulate people like him into buying arsenals. If the arsenal wasn't there in his home it is far less likely he would have been in court today or that he would have murdered his neighbors. One of the outstanding conclusions of research into gun related deaths is that they present an irrevocable choice of action in a situation which would not neccesarily require one otherwise.
Had the weapons sellers not empasized and amplified the fears Hicks seems to have harbored he may not have needed to attack anyone about parking or their apparent difference to him.
One might say the same about FOX news and hate radio although we do not know if Hicks took information or attitude from either source. Both outlets have driven a calculated campaign of fear, hate and xenophobia through the heart of our society and our state.
Mainstream media have echoed this distortion and have done little to correct public mispercetion, sadly such is the nature of "selling" the news. Those of us old enough to recall Jesse Helms ranting on local TV know what I am talking about.
Although it is clear that Hicks is responsible for selecting the victims and pulling the trigger I believe there are numerous "accomplices" who should be standing in the dock next to him, and who should bear the same fate Justice will deliver on him.
