WASHINGTON Democrats have become a confused political party with a muddled message and an inability to turn out enough of its loyal voters, a party task force charged with how to revive the embattled party said Saturday.
I am here to tell you the Democratic Party has lost its way, said Gov. Steve Beshear of Kentucky, who presented the report to the Democratic National Committee WINTER.
The report, an effort to dissect the partys crushing losses in last years congressional and gubernatorial elections, found the circumstances that led to the series of devastating electoral losses did not develop overnight. Republicans have done a better job adapting to the rapidly changing electoral landscape, it said, particularly in the area of fundraising.
Democrats have lagged in wooing its own, most supportive constituencies, while losing others.

(111,264 posts)They need to campaign on fair taxation and a higher minimum wage. That would get people out to vote. Pasting a bad system that is hostile to labor won't.

(16,168 posts)they are all looking at the money side. Aside from a few they are all looking to be rich. the working people they once supported don't quite pay as much as the waltons, kochs and other richie riches.

Obama and Clinton and their Third Way pals are 100% symptomatic of a moribund Party.

(130,914 posts)Maybe a major part of the 'problem' is that we ARE a big-tent party, consequently many approaches to many issues, difficult to 'congeal' for successful action.

If we could do that, look at what we (the lower and middle and working classes, regardless of niche) need, like good healthcare, security in our old age, support for workers and fair pay, we would THRIVE!
If we would focus on these things, a great many soft republicans and independents would join us.
Let's face it, all good Democrats are going to fight for womens' rights and marriage equality and smart gun laws and a balance between rights and security.
But we don't look for the common good, we spend too much time fighting amongst ourselves.
Big tent is great, it's the right thing to do, but for goodness sake, people: FOCUS!
So, a little snow on yer windows?

(130,914 posts)a MAJOR part of the problem of today is Citizen's United, making your reasonable suggestion VERY much more difficult than it was in the past.
Yup, a 'little' snow, so probably not going out until next week; sooner rather than later. REALLY getting boring, and lack of moving around is not healthy. Luckily did go out yesterday, instead of waiting til Monday.

(68,644 posts)It strikes me as monumentally absurd and counter to the intent of the constitution of this nation that the power of wealth should be institutionally granted power over the individual.
You would know better than I, but might there be a case that could be brought to court over unequal access?
Or would we need a different court to ever have a shot at overturning this mess?
elleng
(130,914 posts)and I don't know whether a different Court is necessary. It may be. I'm not optimistic.

We really need to clean house in the Democratic Party.

(6,943 posts)Our party has always been a diverse one, but we always agreed on economic fairness. We were the party of the working person, the 'little guy' and the people who had no one else to stand up for them.
We need to get back to that.

(53,661 posts)Many did when it served their purpose, and now that they see others trying to come up the ladder behind them, are looking out for themselves only. They reaped the benefits of being in the unions, some of them even public workers, or were helped by other Dem programs. They are now on SS and feel secure, if they had a very good paying job with legal protections for their pensions.
So they vote to pay for nothing for others, feel entitled to everything, and use any excuse to do so. I've tried to talk to them but they always have an excuse that amounts to discrimination against others who they consider not worthy of the same benefits they get.
They don't identify with the 'little guy' anymore. They feel they are better than them. A lot of that was taught them by media or their bosses. That is what is killing us, they have got fat bellies now and lost empathy. We have lost a lot of Democrats that way.
As far as regaining the message, ours is good, but it can't undo the millions of people who listen to the narrow choice of news venues we have now with the constant repetition for hours every day and night. People echo what they hear, and even having a Democratic POTUS who goes out and presents our message every day, isn't being reported.
JMHO.

(15,882 posts)His fucking choice.
Feel free to read the description in Stress Test by Timothy "Killer" Geither, his handpicked treasury secretary.
Here, in an interview, Jon Stewart told Killer that the pres went to hell and back for the bank$ters, but not for the people. Killer tried to spin it otherwise.
The voters in the audience laughed AT the little liar's face.

(9,120 posts)She should have been replaced in November after the blowout. It should never have happened and I fault her for not doing homework or figuring out a way to sell her corporate backers to the voters. And since she can't sell them to us, why is she a leader and a major advocate for the party?

(39,405 posts)so Dems barely make pious noises during elections, but they will disregard the wishes of those who elected them and even pro-actively screw them if their big donors (who are also their past, future, and honestly true PRESENT employers) demand it.
