Retired White Plains Officer Kills 2 Kids, Then Himself

Source: http://7online.com

WHITE PLAINS -- Sources say a retired White Plains officer killed his 2 teenage daughters, then himself at a home in Harrison.

Glen Hochman retired two weeks ago in the end of January after 22 years on the job. He was assigned to traffic in White Plains and had an unblemished record.

The White Plains Police Department says they are in shock.

White Plains Police Commissioner David Chong released a statement Saturday night saying,

"The White Plains Police Department is shocked and horrified by the news of this unfathomable tragedy. We can only pray for the entire Hochman family.Police Officer Glen Hochman served the WPPD and the City of White Plains with honor and integrity. He recently retired after 22 plus years of exemplary service. When he retired, he was assigned to the prestigious Traffic Division. He also served in the patrol division."

Both girls were students at Harrison High School, and on the school’s website, Superintendent Louis Wool wrote the following note of condolence. The school will be open at noon Sunday to offer support:

Dear Members of the Harrison Community,

With great sadness our District mourns the death of high school senior Alyssa Hochman, and her younger sister Deanna both lost to incomprehensible tragedy. The high school will open tomorrow starting at noon; support staff, faculty and administration will be available to assist students and families.

Our high school community has faced life shattering tragedies this year, each time they have risen and demonstrated a depth of character and an ethic of care that is inspiring, we can count on them for no less this time, this is a remarkable, generous and giving group of adults and young adults.

In this awful moment, let us remember how proud we are of them, and how much they have helped others, and how much they will help others again.

Sincerely,

Louis N. Wool, Ed.D

Superintendent of Schools

Beautiful girls. I wish someone had seen this man's pain, or that he'd had the courage to confront it instead of letting it run roughshod on his life and that of his children.

of exemplary service would have NEVER been allowed to own a gun.

I'm no fan of the NRA, but you might as well blame Bush or Obama for this one. They have as much to do with it as the NRA.

The article at the full URL:

He said Hochman's body was found in the garage while the bodies of 17-year-old Alissa and 13-year-old Deanna were found on "the main level" of the house. Three dogs were shot to death as well, he said.

I sort of get suicide. I can somewhat understand being in such despair you kill yourself. But killing others along the way, I don't get. Do yourself in, that's more or less okay, but don't take anyone with you.

and given a chance to relive my life I would have tried to immigrate to another not so gun happy country when I left the war.
So sad that we have to think we have to have all these guns out there. I know hunters and I can see how it is necessary to have a gun to get the game, that many don't even eat anyway. Cast in point. My brother has 483 more or less acres of land and its not unusual to find dead dear where someone killed it and let it lay during deer hunting season. Some the shots are so well placed that the deer didn't run away after being hit but rather dropped dead on the spot. Fuck a bunch of guns.

My wife and I had a discussion recently about arming ourselves with a shot gun for protection but when it came time to actually do it neither of us would. I'm damn near 67 years old and spent 15 months in the 'Nam war and I've owned exactly one gun in all these years. I kept it for a few days then gave it back to my friend who I bought it from. It felt so weird in my hands that I couldn't live with the thought of keeping it. Thats been 40 some odd years ago btw.

Maybe if the little girls were armed this wouldn't have happened, for those who can't see this sentence for what it is I give you

Surprised nobody mentioned the statues of the Nativity in the background/left.

My heart goes out to the girls and teh rest of the family. This is incomprehensibly horrific.

I do have to ask though ... if there was no gun in teh house, would he have done this?

The gun really had nothing to do with his decision to kill his 2 beautiful daughters and himself.

I've never really understood someone killing themselves, unless it's because of a terminal medical condition, my contention is that if you've sunk that low, you might as well stick around, things can only get better from that point on.

so that you can kill them both before one can warn the other would not be easy. And psychologically, being proficient at killing someone with a knife etc. is hard to be, because it's so intimate. Doing it to your own almost grown-up daughters who you've known as personalities for years, and who, I presume, have never done anything significant to emotionally hurt him, would be almost unheard of, in someone who was seemingly balanced enough to be a police officer until recently.

Killing a relative with a gun is just as personal as killing one with a knife, axe, hatchet, whatever.
This man had reached such a low point in his life, he was determined, for whatever reason, to kill himself and those close to him and it wouldn't have mattered the instrument used.
