Turkey enters Syria to evacuate Suleyman Shah tomb

Hundreds of Turkish troops in armoured vehicles have entered into northern Syria and evacuated a historic Ottoman tomb and the soldiers guarding it.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said the remains of Suleyman Shah would be moved elsewhere in Syria.

He said troops had destroyed the tomb's complex, apparently to prevent it from being used by Islamic State (IS) militants.

Turkey considers the shrine be to sovereign territory.

2. Yes. The mausoleum is Turkish territory even though it is in Syria.

It is the tomb of the grandfather of Osman I, founder of the Ottoman empire. After the end of the Ottoman Empire Turkey's right to it was granted under the Treaty of Lausanne. It is of great cultural importance to the Turks, especially under the current government with its neo-Ottoman agenda. So of course they want to keep it safe, even if it means moving it.

Turkey Blocks YouTube After Syria Incursion Plans Leaked

March 28 (Bloomberg) -- Turkey defended its decision to block YouTube after a leaked recording of a meeting where top officials discussed a possible military incursion into Syria appeared on the site.

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu today equated the leak to an “attack on Turkey’s borders” in an interview with NTV television. Davutoglu said he had chaired the meeting with the head of national intelligence and other military and diplomatic officials to discuss how to respond to threats by Islamist militants against an enclave of Turkish territory inside Syria. Some sections of the tape were “doctored,” the foreign ministry said in a statement yesterday.

The leaked tape is the latest in a series of recordings posted anonymously on the Internet since December, some of them allegedly from a police investigation, which have embroiled Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a corruption scandal and led to the departure of four cabinet ministers. It comes before weekend local elections, where Erdogan is seeking a victory that he says will lay to rest the allegations of graft.

The premier blames supporters of U.S.-based Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen inside the police and judiciary for instigating the leaks to weaken his government.

Watch for it, we'll see a lot of warsplainin' for weeks or more... another surge.

For months Turkey couldn't be bothered to intervene on behalf of thousands of besieged men, women and children who were losing to ISIS right on their border, but now they send hundreds of tanks and troops to evacuate a tomb? Good to know they got their priorities straight.

All it cares about is knocking over the Syrian regime. And it's trying to suck us into the same shit.

Meanwhile, the jihadi recruit pipeline through Turkey is going full blast.
