Striking FairPoint workers ratify tentative agreement

Source: AP

BY DAVID SHARP

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- Striking FairPoint workers ratified a tentative agreement that ends a four-month strike by more than 1,700 telecommunications workers in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, two unions announced Sunday.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and Communications Workers of America announced the results upon conclusion of three days of voting. The unions didn't provide the exact vote count.

Workers will head back to their jobs Wednesday.

The tentative agreement came after federal mediators brought both sides together seven weeks ago in Washington, D.C.
