Obama Says Netanyahu Speech Had 'Nothing New,' Offered No Alternative To Iran Nuclear Talks

Source: Associated Press

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
March 03, 2015 - 1:54 pm EST

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (neh-ten-YAH'-hoo) didn't offer any "viable alternatives" to the nuclear negotiations with Iran during his speech to Congress.

Obama says he read a transcript of Netanyahu's speech Tuesday. He says "there was nothing new" in the speech.

Obama says Netanyahu made almost the same speech when he warned against the interim deal reached with Iran. Obama says that deal has resulted in a freeze and rolling back of Iran's nuclear program.

Obama says Netanyahu's alternative to the talks amounts to no deal at all. He says that would lead Iran to redouble efforts to build a nuclear bomb.

Nettyahoo has been spewing nothing but fear - and in his mind, and in the minds of our republican elected officials - johnnie McCain and lindy graham - military strike is the only option -

So, I say - go for it - but with your own military strike - leave our American men and women out of it!

Oh and btw - netty - those billions of dollars us taxpayers keep sending you - consider the next bit of welfare null and void!

The GOP and Israel are dead set on starting a war with Iran. Only the military suppliers will make out well if that happens.

Bibi and the Repug party both work for the MIC, that's why he was invited. Repugs want to keep up the drum beat of bomb, bomb Iran.

I couldn't bear to watch even a minute of the Repug/Dem toadying to that little murderer who's wrong about everything. It was such a rank display of disrespect to our nation and our president.

15. The White House must respond to Netanyahu’s important new proposal

Note to jury, Alan Dershowitz is a Democrat. thx

I was in the House gallery when Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a logical and compelling critique of the deal now on the table regarding Iran’s ambitions to obtain nuclear weapons. He laid out a new fact-based proposal that has shifted the burden of persuasion to the White House.

His new proposal is that “If the world powers are not prepared to insist that Iran change its behavior before a deal is signed, at the very least they should insist that Iran change its behavior before a deal expires.” His argument is that without such a precondition, the ten-year sunset provision paves, rather than blocks, the way to an Iranian nuclear arsenal, even if Iran were to continue to export terrorism, to bully nations in the region and to call for the extermination of Israel.

With logic that seems unassailable, Netanyahu has said that the alternative to this bad deal is not war, but rather “a better deal that Israel and its neighbors might not like, but which we could live with, literally.” Netanyahu then outlined his condition for a better deal: namely that before the sun is allowed to set on prohibiting Iran from developing nuclear weapons, the mullahs must first meet three conditions: stop exporting terrorism, stop intruding in the affairs of other countries, and stop threatening the existence of Israel.

If the mullahs reject these three reasonable conditions, it will demonstrate that they have no real interest in joining the international community and abiding by its rules. If they accept these conditions, then the sunset provision will not kick in automatically but will require that Iran demonstrate a willingness to play by the rules, before the rules allow it to develop nuclear weapons.

Doesn't look like anyone is taking the thread very seriously.

People really don't understand that this is not just about Israel, if Iran gets close to producing a nuke we are going to see an arms race throughout the ME and Gulf region.

Further, people here can twist reality all they want but Iranian aggression is driving much of the conflict in the region via Hezbo, Hamas and the revolutionary guard in Iraq.
