Tensions on both sides of the picket line boiled over Tuesday as the United Steelworkers lashed out at members who have returned to their jobs and one of the companies beset by the sprawling refinery and chemical plant strike countered with allegations of intimidation tactics and social media threats by the union.
Early in the day, Steelworkers officials reminded members they had signed up to stand together and complained that "personal greed" was leading some to cross the picket line at LyondellBasell.
LyondellBasell went public later in the day in accusing the union of harassing members who have returned. The company said it had filed an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board.
And late Monday night, Shell Oil Co. announced plans to have operations back to normal by summer by hiring relief workers to run its refinery in Deer Park and a chemical plant in Louisiana.

(8,203 posts)First with New England Telco then AT&T - from the sixties through 1989 - it is hard walking those picket lines for any length of time...but understand - we had the public with us - scabs were few and far between - because they understood this affected them as well -
Other Unions and organizations helped with positive messages and other support behind the scenes..we were "warriors" against the corporate greed...
Today Unions need to stay on message to their members - calling it "GREED" is not a positive message...many employees are probably far in debt..encouraged of course..by corp America..a masterful plan to keep it that way...
Union members need your support..Mr John Q Public...you have no problem supporting men and women going to war - this is war -
Stand strong with your Union members..afa SCABS are concerned...they are the bottom of the barrel....

(99,780 posts)She stayed out the three weeks in 83 at Northwestern Bell (AT&T). My sister stayed out for 3 strikes in her career there.
I won an NLRB case in 83. I was also reinstated after an illegal discharge (in 07?) I think. It was headed to arbitration when they settled. So there is no record of it like there is in the NLRB files.
