Glitter bomb showers staffers for Nebraska's Rep. Jeff Fortenberry

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Joseph Morton

WASHINGTON — Aides to Rep. Jeff Fortenberry were hit Wednesday by a glitter bomb sent to his Lincoln office.

The Republican congressman avoided being showered with the unwanted, sparking decorations. He was a thousand miles away at the time, voting on Capitol Hill.

For those who are unfamiliar, a glitter bomb is a prank device designed to throw off a cloud of tiny sparkles, which get into clothes, computer keyboards and everywhere else.

Wednesday’s attack appeared to be motivated by Fortenberry’s anti-abortion positions, said spokeswoman Jennifer Allen.

really think this rises to he level of an "attack", worthy of reporting as to whether injuries were involved? It was an envelope with glitter in it. Not a brick through a window or real bomb.

1) Even though it's harmless and pretty much benign, to me it is not funny in the slightest. Considering that staffers have been the (unintended) targets of potentially lethal attacks in the past (e.g., anthrax), these people were likely genuinely terrified for a moment or two.

2) The upside (dark as it is) is that this glitter bomb illustrates that our leaders are still vulnerable to real attacks. I felt the same way about the Code Pink woman putting "bloody hands" in Condi Rice's face as Rice was about to testify to Congress. It was harmless, but what if her motivations had been sinister? Our attempts at security are a bit laughable.

3) I just don't think this crap is funny.

problem was with the reporting. "Attack", saying no injuries (implying injuries are expected with a glitter bomb.) Then to cap it off: anthrax!!

The so-called right to life people kill doctors, use real bombs, terrorize women and more. Yet this guy gets a freaking glitter bomb and all the buzz words are used in an attempt to equate the two as equal.

... and resources" said the same person - spokeswoman Jennifer Allen.

If she thinks it's a waste of time, then she shouldn't try to make a literal federal case out of it.

If you have a position to take, tell him, make a scene, write a letter. This sways no one's opinion and makes people less responsive to your side. Put the shoe on the other foot -- what if RWNJ's did the same to people on our side of the aisle?

For $10, you too can send glitter to a Republican.

FWIW, the service is 100% real. It was started by a Redditor as a joke, but he had orders in the six figures in no time. So many, in fact, that he couldn't actually fulfill them. He sold the company like a week later for a hundred grand, and the new owners have happily be dousing ex-bosses, ex-boyfriends, and politicians in glitter ever since.
