Plane skids off runway at New York's LaGuardia Airport

Source: CBS

NEW YORK -- Emergency responders are on the scene after a plane skidded off the runway at LaGuardia Airport, CBS New York reports.

It involved inbound Delta Flight 1086 from Atlanta around 11 a.m. Thursday.

The aircraft was coming in on Runway 13 when it somehow skidded off the runway, WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported. The rear end of the aircraft appears to be on the ground while part of the plane appears to have struck a fence.

Delta released the following statement: " Delta flight 1086 from Atlanta to New York-LaGuardia exited Runway 13 Thursday morning during landing. Customers deplaned via aircraft slides and have moved to the terminal on buses. Our priority is ensuring our customers and crew members are safe. Delta will work with all authorities and stakeholders to look into what happened in this incident."

when they fly in over the lake before they land. It almost appears they want to dip that wing into the water when they get their final approval to land.

I don't know if you remember the group of doctors who were flying an organ in for transplant, and they went down in the water and search planes were out and about by the Art Museum when visiting that day. And this accident appeared to occur during a little bit of rain.

SNA has always been a gem, causing people to scream years ago...set the brakes, bring up the engines, release the brakes and rocket off the ground, then at about 2000 ft (2?) cut back on power by 50% to glide out of the area for noise abatement before continuing the climb to cruise.

I'll just stay home.

I fly back and forth from Florida to NY numerous times a year. Just got back last Saturday. Good timing, but I will take JFK or even MacArthur (Islip) over LGA if I can help it.

Can't imagine, unless it was the blinding snowstorm dropping heavy, glue-like snow all over the mid-Atlantic at the moment.

OK, I know they can't attribute the skid until they know the facts, but that "somehow" is kinda funny if you are slogging through the mess.

Flying to LGA with bad weather is a bad idea. Much better luck with JFK or EWR - longer runways )that don't extend into the Long Island Sound).

One can get into town on mass transit in less than an hour. The 7 train rules.

Of course, that was 1970 for me.

"Laguardia sucks and they should shut it down...idiots" They think it was a small layer of ice from some ice fog. The runway was plowed but not salt/sanded.
