Protests block entrances to UCSC; traffic diverted
Source: Santa Cruz Sentinel
Both entrances to UC Santa Cruz were closed Thursday morning as part of a four-day student protest against UC tuition hikes, racism and nationwide police violence.
University police closed Bay Drive at Nobel Drive/Iowa Drive, and High Street between Western Drive and Cardiff Place.
Although protestors are not allowing traffic onto the campus, cars can still exit.
On campus about 60 demonstrators gathered at Coolidge and Hagar drives, holding banners protesting police violence and tuition fees. One banner read Education is a right, not a privilege.

The four days of protests included a shutdown of Highway 1 on Tuesday, in which six students linked by chains, steel pipes and concrete blocked three lanes of traffic for five hours. They were arrested on suspicion of three misdemeanors and one felony.
I just can't get behind getting on the highway and putting yourself and others at risk. Keep it on the campus kids.
