Joe Biden Goes Ballistic On Senate Republicans
Source: Huffington Post
WASHINGTON -- Vice President Joe Biden is furious.
Biden, who also serves as president of the Senate, Monday night blasted Senate Republicans in a long, angry statement for their letter to Iran's leaders, which he described as "beneath the dignity of an institution I revere."
Forty-seven Republicans on Sunday wrote directly to Tehran to suggest that any nuclear deal with the Obama administration would not be constitutionally binding because a future president or Congress could take steps to revoke it. Biden called the move an unprecedented affront "designed to undercut a sitting president."
"In thirty-six years in the United States Senate, I cannot recall another instance in which Senators wrote directly to advise another country -- much less a longtime foreign adversary -- that the President does not have the constitutional authority to reach a meaningful understanding with them. This letter sends a highly misleading signal to friend and foe alike that that our Commander-in-Chief cannot deliver on Americas commitments -- a message that is as false as it is dangerous," Biden said in a statement released by the White House.

(10,998 posts)Because he said Biden was 150% correct. But then made then troll comment, showing that he thought poster #1 was smearing Biden.
I think #1 was saying that Obama should have let Biden answer back publicly to the gop every time they pulled an ugly stunt.
I agree with poster #1, Biden should have been the loud and clear public voice to speak out against the gop abuses.

(28,267 posts)Characterizing it as something from "an obvious Repuke troll" is way the hell off target.
Obama has been way too polite and accommodating with his Republican adversaries over the years. Biden is giving them the treatment they deserve, here.

(10,252 posts)you join their team when you do that. Wish instead that they will awaken from their paranoid delusions and hateful condescension. Hatred makes you stupid, and it has certainly made them stupid.

(86,691 posts)i am disgusted and ashamed for my country. I wish they experience the consequences of their actions borne of their hatred and there is nothing wrong with that. As others here have suggested, I too think they are beyond redemption - the ability to see the error of their ways.
Whatever suffering comes of their being shown that what they do is unacceptable - since they have seen to it that they are rarely if ever held accountable - will be of their choosing. They have done real damage to this nation and its citizens and they must be held accountable even though I don't expect to see it in my lifetime. (and with that I hope I don't last a really long time. They have caused me great suffering - past, present and into the foreseeable future - and I have had enough of it.)
That's how I see, whether I articulated that clearly earlier or not, and I'm sticking to it.

(10,252 posts)as I am a Buddhist in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. I have no doubt that the actions of the RW hate mongers will only cause themselves and others immense suffering. Not so easy to understand and accept is the notion that my own suffering and misfortunes are the fruition of my own bad karma from my own thoughts, words, and deeds.

(764 posts)For good or bad our president does not react based on primitive emotions like many in the GOP do. His reaction if any will be well thought out. He is not the guy to follow if you are into getting your rocks off by stepping on other people, he keeps his eye on the big prize.

I cannot understand why ANY of their constituency would continue to support them. They are beyond redemption. They do not deserve one scintilla of respect from anyone.

(29,322 posts)Wait a minute are the Democrats being incredibly unreasonable regarding information sent in a letter Iran should already be well aware, they know Presidents come & go away after only 2 terms. Highly misleading? OK but this is very odd switching of places right now. Usually it is the Republicans that act like Biden.
peoli
(3,111 posts)I don't even know what this means.
JonLP24
(29,322 posts)I don't know what is really offensive about the letter or what is even misleading about it. What I mean is typically when a Democrat does something, the Republicans oversell it as so much worse than it really is. That is how feel about anger or "treason", it is just very odd to be seeing done the other way.
Obviously taking up this view is going to bring up numerous ulterior motive accusations or assumptions but all I can say is this is not a road we don't want to be going down or I won't follow the party down it since it is so unnecessary but certainly the Republicans would be the first ones to do it if the roles were reversed.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)The democrats have never gone down.
They were trying to help hardliners in Tehran scrap negotiations by convincing them that there was no point in negotiating with the President of the United States of America.
Because they want negotiations to fail.
Because they want a war.
Because they are war pigs.
JonLP24
(29,322 posts)I mean intellectual honesty regarding this letter. Threatening Iran with war, they are used to it by it now. Regarding why Iran would need "un-precedented transparency" well Obama would have tougher demands than me or I'd practice what I preach.
Wanting negotiations to fail has been obvious a long time, they invited the Israeli PM to speak in Congress which was something that definitely did bother me. Not that I saw it as anything close to Treason, it is different bringing a head of a state in the US Congress of all places a very different thing.

(11,589 posts)basically, this is a domestic problem. It's a big one but if Iran sees it then seriously, WTF?
Iran is seeing something that many Americans are not seeing. We have a party drumming for war and another party trying to make peace.
JonLP24
(29,322 posts)so the misleading claim was debunked early. I view the letter as basically if Iran doesn't already know how US government functions which I highly doubt, the letter wasn't offensive in any case & a lot of what the Republicans do & say offends me.

Where the GOP can disrespect anyone they choose, joke about rape and exclude women and minorities.
They take away the civil rights and livelihoods of millions to make big money for their retirement.
They don't follow the laws they pass that hurt others, and get drunk on the job.
They are scum who refuse to do anything for the majority of the American people.

(19,566 posts)If the US were to go back on an agreement they entered into with the UK, Germany, Iran, China and France, there would be massive repercussions with the other nations involved. The Republicans are massively overstating their power, and the power the US has in these negotiations. Unless they want to enter a war with just Israel in their pocket against Russia, China and Iran, even they need allies. You don't gain those by spitting in the face of those who dealt with you in good faith.
Which brings us to the real problem with the current crop of Republicans, they can't see the big picture for their overly inflated egos. Which is why they have no concept of diplomacy or the negotiations involved in such.
quadrature
(2,049 posts)but the problem is...
does Iran think they are getting a Treaty from the US?
they are not, (not sure what Iran believes)... but many people

US President can put a treaty into effect by himself,
he cannot.
herding cats
(19,566 posts)We seem to delude ourselves a bit too often. If you follow the foreign press, they talk about the other parties involved. In the US, it's framed as just the US and Iran, which isn't the case. No nation goes into such negotiations alone. They need their allies to help further their cause, which both sides have in this case.

It is sad that the GOP has any say in anything given what they did to Iraq.

It meets all the tests. Fight fire with fire. It's the only language they'll understand. They're counting on us to cry and whimper, then doing nothing. We always do. Time for Dems to stand strongly behind our President.
