Walker fires back following Obama criticism of right-to-work

Source: AP

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says President Barack Obama should look to his state as an example of how to improve the economy, rather than criticize his signing of a right-to-work bill into law.

Obama issued a statement Monday night after Walker signed the bill, saying right-to-work "will weaken, rather than strengthen workers."

Obama says Walker, a likely 2016 Republican presidential candidate, should do more to help working-class Americans "by taking meaningful action to raise their wages and offer them ... paid leave."

Walker says in his statement that the law prohibiting private-sector workers from having to join a union or pay dues gives them the power to choose and provides the state with "one more tool to encourage job creators to continue investing and expanding."

Knowing what he did to Wisconsin, and also observing his utter lack of any personal quality that could be called "warmth" or "charm" (honestly, what IS his appeal, even for RW voters ?), I'm just astonished (not to mention worried) that he's gotten as much apparent traction as he has.

Walker has no educational chops and is just a pawn of the wealthy (read: Kochs), who want to basically have someone else do the dirty work of what Romney did: vulture capitalism.

He's not religiously insane enough to appeal to the teabaggers, his state's economic performance isn't good enough to steer the Koch Brothers his way and he doesn't have the old-money ties that will interest the Boston Brahmins and other "classical" Republican constituencies. His claim to fame is antilabor, which just puts him on the side of the rest of the clown car.

All kidding aside, we are probably looking at Jeb Bush as the GOP's 2016 candidate. Jeb is just as evil as the rest of them, he's religious enough to attract the teabaggers but not quite religious enough to scare off the establishment, and Bush money is some of the oldest in the world.

And, strangely, next door in Minnesota, which is not a right to work state and is mostly controlled by Democrats, there is a budget surplus and much lower unemployment than Wisconsin. http://blogs.mprnews.org/newscut/2015/01/minnesota-economy-beats-wisconsin-7-charts-1-table/

Good on Minnesota.

Every damn time someone tries to lift up Scott Walker, they need to contrast it with Governor Mark Dayton and what he has done.

This is proof of the polarity of the two economic systems.

"Right to Work" was explained to me by my employer in AZ, when I took a job there in 1984. We got subpar wages and benefits...I got the hell out in 2 years and would never work there again.

Wisconsin as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Koch Brothers is doing poorly.

There is a giant sucking sound of jobs and fortunes leaving the State.

One can imagine the laugh the Koch Borthers have regarding Walker's political aspirations, realizing all he'll have after gutting Wisconsin, is a very short stint on Fox News. Another Joe the unlicensed plumber moment.

Walker doesn't realize the hypocrisy of his talking about job creators, as he is the job destroyer. Can't help but wonder if Walker and Paul Ryan go to the same school of cheese head economics Ayn Rand 101.

Scott Walker signs right-to-work bill at company that shipped jobs to Mexico

http://teamsternation.blogspot.com/2015/03/scott-walker-signs-right-to-work-bill.html?spref=tw

Wisconsin job-killer Gov. Scott Walker signed a right-to-work bill today at Badger Meter, a Brown Deer company that moved Wisconsin jobs to Mexico in 2009.

Badger Meter, which makes products for water utilities, may even have more employees in Mexico than in Wisconsin.

The company's shop floor workers were not allowed to attend the bill-signing event, but dozens of legislators and business leaders were. Outside, protesters picketed with signs that said right to work is bad for workers, according to the Milwaukee Business Journal.

Wisconsin Teamsters fought with all their hearts against the bill, which was rushed through the Legislature once Republicans knew they had the votes.

Wayne Schultz, President of Teamsters Joint Council 39 in Milwaukee, issued a statement denouncing Walker:

Gov. Walker has done a great disservice to every working man and woman in the state of Wisconsin today. This fight does not end today – we will continue to fight in any way [we] can to rid our state of this destructive law.

Nice timing.

Hoffman announced Monday night — not long after Gov. Scott Walker signed the bill — that he's taking Garofalo up on his offer.

It's not just right-to-work driving Hoffman's decision, he said. The possibility of repealing the prevailing wage, as some Republican lawmakers have indicated, also has him concerned, as does the level of bonding proposed in Walker's transportation budget.

"This isn’t a political decision, it is a business decision," Hoffman wrote in his response to Garofalo. "I understand the MN Governor & Legislature are debating a funding INCREASE for transportation investments, while the Wisconsin Governor has proposed bonding (i.e. credit card) to solve the transportation funding problems. That, combined with Right to Work and proposed repeal of Wisconsin’s Prevailing Wage statute lead to my plans to relocate a portion of our business to Minnesota." ....

.... "'Our Company is Our People' – that’s our company motto," Hoffman wrote. "I am a fourth generation family owner and am proud to say we have 5th generation workers. We are a union shop by choice, with agreements with the Operating Engineers local 49 and the MN Laborers unions. Over time, Right to Work legislation interferes with my company’s ability to have access to skilled, productive workers which I depend upon when I submit my bid to the DOT."
