A Univision talk show host was fired after he likened Michelle Obama to someone from the cast of 'Planet Of The Apes.'

Rodner Figueroa, the host of "El Gordo Y la Flaca," said in Spanish, "You know Michelle Obama looks like she is of the cast of "The Planet Of The Apes" as he pointed to a photo of Obama. Figueroa made the comment in a segment about makeup artist Paolo Ballesteros.

The thing about this racist wave that has reared it's ugly head once again,
is that The President and the First Lady; when hearing about this kind of stuff
have to just look at each other and roll their eyes in borderline exhaustion,
at the ignorance and clueless-ness of SO MANY assholes in what used to be
such a cool country.....

And as you can see, the republicans are slashing education budgets as fast as they can. Racism was never eradicated in the U.S., but it was marginalized for a time.

That time is now over. Stupid is as stupid does.

It seems to be ingrained into the American Culture. People are fucking taught to believe black people are bad and that your better than them.

Example, something was stolen, typical response is what? A black guy did it.

Matter of fact, many other countries are much worse. As evidenced by the fact that so many people from different cultures try to COME here

here than there ever thought about being in the US. Dark skinned people treat darker skinned people bad, it's ok as long as that person is a little darker. We live in mexico state where people are indigenous and mostly indigenous except for lighter skinned in the main cities. Even in our pueblo the dark skinned treat darker skinned very bad, it's typical in primary school on up also. Darker skinned people are bullied. There's black people down south that are treated very bad here in mexico. When was the last time you saw black people retiring here?

Even in the US in the areas where there are people new from latin america it's typical to hear someone looking at a baby and say "que bonita y guero". How beautiful and light. Or "que prieto" which means how dark kind of disgust in their voice.

I am dark skinned, but my wife and 1 child (a girl 18 now) are very dark. They both have caught it in school and everywhere else. Parents of other kids would talk about how dark the daughter is in front of the wife and kids would bully her. The wife worried about her even before school.

Know what? It didn't happen in the us except for other latinos and some black people. The latinos being darker and with black people being "mexican". No matter what country.

I have also been to 16 countries and I will tell you now that the us doesn't even rate close to the top with bigotry and racism. It's normally people that have never been anywhere else to say that.

I think it was right to fire the reporter, but unfortunately it's typical in our culture to be like that. Especially mexican, but it doesn't stop with us.

Through Executive Order, Michelle's husband, Pres Barack Obama, stuck his neck out for Mr Figueroa's people to stay legally in the US.

Most of "his people" are here legally.

And "nt" is commonly used here at DU to indicate that the message has not text, and is complete in the subject line.

With that said, The Univison commentator who was fired after his disparaging remarks about Michelle Obama is a racist, and got what he deserved. Maybe he is jealous because her husband Barack Obama, who happens to be half Black, is the President of the US. Too me personally, Michelle is very intelligent, a great role model, and good lookin.

UPDATE 3/12 6:00 p.m.: In an extensive open letter to the First Lady, Figueroa offered a formal apology for what was said but explained that it had been taken out of context. The former also said he was verbally notified that he was being fired because of a complaint from Michelle Obama's office and that he felt Univision had publicly humiliated him.

Statement from Univision..
Yesterday during the entertainment show "El Gordo y La Flaca," Rodner Figueroa made comments about First Lady Michelle Obama that were completely reprehensible and in no way reflect the values or opinions of Univision. As a result, Mr. Figueroa was fired immediately.
