Oklahoma Dem amendment: Christian businesses must post notice of anti-gay discrimination

Source: RawStory

Oklahoma Democratic state Rep. Emily Virgin wants Christian businesses to post a public notice of discrimination if they intend to claim that they have a religious right to refuse service to LGBT people.

State Rep. Chuck Strohm (R) introduced a bill, the Oklahoma Religious Freedom Act, earlier this year that would allow businesses like wedding cake bakers and photographers to deny services if it was “against the person’s religious beliefs.”

State Sen. Joseph Silk (R), who introduced a similar bill in the Oklahoma Senate, told The New York Times recently that new laws were necessary because the LGBT movement was “challenging religious liberties and the freedom to live out religious convictions.”

The amendment to HB1371 introduced by Virgin on Tuesday would require religious businesses to come out of the closet.

“Any person not wanting to participate in any of the activities set forth in subsection A of this section based on sexual orientation, gender identity or race of either party to the marriage shall post notice of such refusal in a manner clearly visible to the public in all places of business, including websites,” the amendment states.

The bigots will probably try to twist this to make themselves the victims by claiming that their Constitutional right to NOT put their bigotry on display is being infringed upon.

I like bigots out in the open- so I don't accidently give money to bigots. Hey, if they are doing this for Jebus then they should be proud, right?

This is an excellent idea. Generally I am against labeling people or ideas but this may be different.

State Rep. Chuck Strohm's (R) bill, the Oklahoma Religious Freedom Act, allowing denial of services if it was “against the person’s religious beliefs" demands a response.

I also have rights. I have the right to support, with my pocketbook, those businesses that are inclusive, thoughtful, and progressive.

I do not want to involve myself with narrow-minded zealots who wrap themselves in the curtain of their religiosity.

A warning sign would be helpful to all involved. It could read:

WARNING: This business is operated with the intent to discriminate. LGBT people (and others of their ilk) stay out.

Thank you.

And, I agree. Let them discriminate. I don't want to give them a red cent. They'll lose much more business than they realize that's for sure (i.e. friends and family).

Lots of private schools these days, and teenagers also have sex, begins around age 10-11 or thereabouts for some of the early kids. Should schools also be required to clearly state their hatreds? Are private schools considered "businesses" subject to this law?
