Arrest made in fatal shooting of Iraqi immigrant: Dallas police

Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - Dallas police said on Friday an arrest has been made in last week's fatal shooting of Iraqi immigrant who was gunned down while taking pictures of a snowfall.

Ahmed al-Jumaili, 30, had only been in the United States for about three weeks to be reunited with his wife when he was killed.

Police, who will hold a news conference later Friday, have said the killing appeared to be a random act of violence but did not rule out that it could be a hate crime.

Surveillance video released by police showed four men running away from a nearby apartment complex, with one man carrying a rifle.

10. Uhm, if race(or perceived race) is a factor in a crime, the race of the attacker is irrelevant...

Not saying this crime was a hate crime, just saying that your implication that only white people can commit hate crimes is false.

Nykerion Nealon, who was arrested on a murder charge early Friday, was looking for the shooters who had shot at his girlfriend’s apartment and did not know the victim or the victim’s ethnicity, Dallas Police Major Jeff Cotner said at a news conference.

Nealon admitted to police he was the man seen on a video carrying an assault rifle right after the shooting, but denied being the shooter who killed Ahmed al-Jumaili. Nealon claimed when he tried to fire the rifle, he “did not know how to work it” so handed it to his companion, police said in an arrest warrant affidavit.

But police said several witnesses and evidence showed Nealon was the shooter. Nealon told three men he was with that night that he was searching for the people who had shot at his girlfriend’s apartment about a half-hour before, Cotner said.

He probably didn't recognize them as locals???

Nealon is black, so I doubt the Arab ethnicity of the victim had anything to do with it.

4. Disgusting and dispiriting on so many levels

The same gun-worshipping, brainwashed, stalled-in-adolescence freepers who believe in American exceptionalism, America the land of opportunity, and America the god-fearing are responsible for increasing the level of intolerance, poverty, ignorance, paranoia, and hatred toward anyone who doesn't look, act, and think like them.

I hope there's a judge and jury in Texas that puts the perpetrator behind bars for life, and assigns stiff sentences to his accomplices. And if that happens (what are the chances), I hope every media outlet in Texas uses this as an opportunity to apologize for the cultural deviance that they have helped to cultivate.

I can dream, can't I?

8. Accodring to the article it was a black kid, looking for someone who had shot at his apartment.

He walked through the complex with an assault rifle, and when he came upon this guy out taking pictures, decided he was good for it, started shooting at him, tracked him down and shot him. He had nothing to do with shooting at the kid's apartment.

11. And because it doesn't fit the "accepted" narrative, this story will disappear in a day or two

Since it was due to random, gang related violence very few in the media or here will continue to follow the story.

One just has to look at a couple of the posts in this thread to see why it doesn't fit the "accepted" narrative.

It does seem that they have the right person, but the accounts of what happened don't really make sense. The tendency is to look for a pattern to make sense of things.

because it reinforces what they believe.

And it's not just this specific case:
The Boston Marathon there were a number of people here who were certain, without any facts, that it was RW extremists

The shooting of the two police officers: again, right wing extremists

The murder of this poor Iraqi man, yet again, right wing extremists

All without any facts. Far too much confirmation bias in some of these posts instead of facts.
