Judge Denies 11th Hour Rowland Plea; Sentencing Set Wednesday

A federal judge on Monday denied former Gov. John G. Rowland's eleventh-hour effort to overturn his conviction and win a new trial, ordering that "this case will proceed to sentencing as scheduled.".

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton means it is unlikely that Rowland can do anything more to delay sentencing at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. He faces 37 to 46 months in prison under the advisory calculations used in federal court, but the judge can add to or shorten the sentence.

It is the second time in three weeks that Arterton has rejected claims by Rowland that he was denied a fair trial because federal prosecutors failed to disclose evidence his lawyers could have used to support his contention of innocence in a conspiracy to violate federal clean election laws.

Arterton again said she is not persuaded that prosecutors withheld any evidence from Rowland. Even if disputed evidence had been concealed, Arterton said it would not have convinced jurors to reach a different verdict.

This guy just never gives up trying - he's a two-time felon and yet he keeps blaming everyone else and trying to make stuff up to avoid paying for his crimes.

Based on his childish ploys to delay sentencing, he should get the maximum!
