Shaker student aiding Alzheimer's research

Source: Times Union

By Tim O'Brien

COLONIE — A 17-year-old Shaker High School student is doing groundbreaking research into Alzheimer's disease he hopes will ease the path to a cure.

Muhammad Ali started the project when he was 14 and began a three-year course on science research.

At first, Ali said, he was interested in researching HIV.

"We realized there weren't a lot of professors that would let a 14-year-old research an infectious disease," he said.

Always blows my mind when some kid comes up with a near-genius idea or approach or invention or solution to a big problem - like the kid whose work could help us clean up those trash gyres in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. OUTSTANDING! Gives me hope.

I hope he wins some BIG grant to fund further research. This is a VERY valuable and indeed urgent pursuit as we all age.

He should be a role model for Muslim youth. He is proud of who he is and is moving forward rather than joining ISIS or some other backwards movement. This story should be publicized far and wide.

Bravo

Sort of like saying, "It's good to see that Stassenheimer kid from Ohio not joining a neo-Nazi group."
