Strykers Begin 'Road March' Across Eastern Europe

Columns of Stryker vehicles will road march across Eastern Europe in an unprecedented exercise designed to assure America's allies.
Operation Dragoon Ride is scheduled to begin March 21, and it comes one year after Russia annexed Crimea in an action condemned by Kiev and the West as an illegal land grab, but heralded by many Russians as correcting a historic injustice.
It also comes as Operation Atlantic Resolve, which launched last April in the three Baltic States and Poland, prepares to expand into two new countries.
"The whole purpose
is to assure those allies that live closest to the Bear that we are here," said Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, commanding general of U.S. Army Europe. "You heard our president say very clearly, we will defend our allies, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Poland."
Operation Dragoon Ride was Hodges' brainchild.

(29,876 posts)Despite being quick to condemn Russian military manoeuvers, NATO is conducting wide-scale war games in the Baltic states and creating a line of troops across Eastern Europe. The US denies a double standard, but records and transcripts suggest otherwise.
Thousands of US troops and hundreds of tanks have poured into Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in the past two months as part of an operation dubbed Atlantic Resolve. In February, 140 NATO vehicles and 1400 troops swept through Narva, a mere 300 meters from the Russian border.

As you connect countries, there is almost a line of US troops, Defense News quoted Col. Michael Foster of the 173rd Airborne Brigade on March 2 as saying. US forces have previously held joint war games with Baltic nations, with names such as Saber Strike, Spring Storm and Flaming Sword.
When asked why the US was condemning Russian exercises inside Russia, State Department press official Jeff Rathke told RT no such statement had ever been made.

Both sides play a dangerous game of chicken - NATO do it in eastern Europe - right near the border with Russia - Russia play the same game when NATO had a annual exercises in the northern part of Europe - where 10-15.000 soldiers with their equipment was based in Norwegian soil - for a exercises who is annual in nature - and where the russian government is informed of the exercises at least 6 mounts in advance - just to make sure nothing will happened if they was cough off guard....
And then Russia had a little drill where 38.000 soldiers, most of the air force and most of the Navy was activated on a tight schedule - even some parts of the submarine force was activated and was practicing missile firing in most of the Barensea - even exercises South in the Norwegian sea (Nordsjøen) - and even had some contact with NATO forces - if no exactly friendly, at least not to aggresive...
So - both sides is playing this game - and where both sides are doing their best to muster support for the black&white - even if the facts is rather gray in nature...
And one of reason US are now showing the flag in eastern Europe - is not necessary because they want to provoke a war with Russia - but to show their allies in the region US is on the case - and will protect them - if Russia is deemed to be on a war footing against the baltic states and Poland who have reason to fear Russia more than they ever have been... It is a matter of showing the flag - something I think Russia wil counter - I fear for an intersting spring/summer in Europe - if the tit for tat game wil continue....

Sure, Operation Dragoon Ride right up to the Russian border;
what could possibly go wrong?
And don't forget the "pivot to Asia" that is going on at the same time.
The militarists seem bent on having a military face-off with the entire
planet all at the same time.
It's the quintessence of Bat-Shit-Craziness.
