Ted Cruz announces presidential campaign in midnight tweet

Source: CBS

WASHINGTON - Sen. Ted Cruz has become the first major candidate for president with a midnight announcement of his 2016 run for the White House.

"I believe in America and her people," Cruz said in a 30-second video to accompany his tweet. "And I believe we can stand up and restore her promise."

The Texas Republican kicked off what's expected to be a rush over the next few weeks of more than a dozen White House hopefuls into the 2016 campaign.

Cruz will formally get into the race during a morning speech at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, choosing to begin his campaign at the Christian college founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell. It's a fitting setting for Cruz, a 44-year-old tea party darling whose father is a pastor.

That's not *quite* Cruz's motto/campaign slogan. His motto is "It's about ME, and ONLY me!" nt tblue37 Mar 2015 #1

The clip was something like (paraphrased) "We can't let this faction take over the Republican party" and something like "or we will lose the presidency". He has been very vocal against Cruz over the past couple years regarding his lack of support for Superstorm Sandy funding, his promoting the 2011 government shutdown, and trying to defund Homeland Security.

any SuperPACs set up on his behalf will fund his campaign and the suckers who pump money into them will be the ones who'll lose. And once his failed race is done, he can then take over "running" these PACs to use "on behalf of party issues". And after the election is over, he can use the money for himself however he sees fit. It's a money-making racket, which is why these lunatics jump into these Presidential races nowadays.

What differentiates Cruz from his competition, however, is that he was born in Canada — Calgary, Alta., in fact — to an American mother and a Cuban-born father. His heritage made Cruz a dual citizen at birth. Under U.S. law, being born to an American mother automatically gives you American citizenship, while being born on Canadian soil makes you a Canadian.

The U.S. Constitution doesn't preclude dual citizens from running for the presidency, but it requires presidents to be "natural born" citizens, which is commonly believed to be Americans born with citizenship even if they weren't born on U.S. soil.

Cruz scares the f**k out of me. He's straight from central casting to play the leader of the Handmaid's Tale christo-fascist coup. I wouldn't underestimate him at all.

But the fact is the country is not THAT far gone. The GOP have managed to Gerrymander control of Congress, but they can't use their Gerrymandered districts to control the Presidency... YET. Their efforts to make Purple states have "proportional" electoral votes might just do it if we're not careful though.

1) love of seeing himself on camera and, 2) a future 7 or 8 figure Fox deal. The scary part is he can play the dim bulbs better than Creflo Dollar pitching $300 donations for his private jet.
