Ted Cruz: I Am THE Conservative Candidate For President
Source: TPM
LYNCHBURG, Va. Sen. Ted Cruz was treated to a hero's welcome here at the evangelical Liberty University on Monday when he became the first major candidate to officially jump into the 2016 presidential race.
The Republican firebrand from Texas delivered a speech in a packed auditorium at convocation held at the school founded by the late televangelist Jerry Falwell. It is a thrice-weekly event that's mandatory for students, the university said.
"I want to talk to you this morning about reigniting the promise of America," Cruz said, to cheers.
"Amen," said a member of the audience.

(81,399 posts)ted cruz can't run for President. He doesn't QUALIFY to run for President. He wasn't born here. He was born in Canada. Last I looked, Canada was NOT one of the 50 states.

(15,438 posts)Let's see if M$M will begin reporting with the same viciousness and fervor about Teddy's Canadian birth place, and let's see if they dare question whether he's qualified to run for U.S. President as they'd done with President Obama.
Let's see if the Neo-Confederates posing as Republicans will come out, frothing at the mouth, that Ted is a "furrner" and not qualified to be president! Let's see if they'll demand to see his LONG FORM birth certificate and hospital records. Let's see Oily Taitz rush to file one law suit after another.
If none of this happens, then they can no longer hide the fact that their attacks of President Obama for being born in Hawaii, was nothing more than pure RACISM by sore-loser RACISTS who can't stand the idea of having a Black man in the White House.

(81,399 posts)NOBODY's even brought it up. Er - uh - folks - um, this one's a non-starter. This guy doesn't even qualify. He wasn't US-born.

(15,438 posts)According to Congressional Republicans, if a person isn't born on U.S. soil, they're not qualified to be President of the United States even though they are a natural born U.S. citizen who was born on foreign soil. But I don't see anything in the U.S. Constitution that stipulates that. So I'm not entirely certain whether or not Rafael Cruz Jr., is qualified to be president or not since the U.S. Surpreme Court has never ruled on what a natural born citizen is.
From Politifact:
So what is a "natural born" citizen? The Constitution doesnt specifically say.
In 2008, we reviewed research and polled several legal experts. The consensus was that someone is a "natural born" citizen if they have citizenship at birth and dont have to go through a naturalization process to become a citizen.
If thats the definition, then Cruz is a natural born citizen by being born to an American mother and having her citizenship at birth. (This same logic would apply to Obama, even if he were born in another country, which he wasnt.)
The Congressional Research Service published a report on the issue after the 2008 election; the agency is tasked with providing authoritative research to all members of Congress. It, too, supported the thinking that "natural born" citizenship means citizenship held "at birth."
But the Supreme Court -- the ultimate arbiter of constitutional questions -- has never ruled on the matter. And that means a note of uncertainty remains.
Sarah H. Duggin, a professor of law at Catholic University, has written about and studied the issue extensively. She told us in 2008 that the question of natural born citizenship is "one of the most deceptively simple, complex issues."

Also from that site:
So until the U.S. Supreme Court declares otherwise, for me, it's still a bit murky. But everything appears to support a Rafael Cruz Jr., presidential run despite being born on foreign soil that wasn't a part of the United States (unlike John McCain who was, technically, born on U.S. soil).

(81,399 posts)birth, a US territory or possession, or whatever the category was. Not all of Panama. Just the Canal Zone. So yes, john mccain qualified. Because a US territory or possession is still considered US soil. Just as every embassy is, no matter where it's located. That embassy for that nation IS, technically, on that nation's soil. So if john mccain had been born on the grounds at the US Embassy anywhere on the planet, he would still be considered a citizen born on American soil. Same thing for ted cruz. But that's not what happened with ted cruz. ted cruz was born in another, separate, sovereign country: Canada. He's a North American citizen, but then again so are the citizens of Cuba and Mexico and Central America, too. But none of them qualify to run for President of the United States.

(15,438 posts)He's a fascist neo-confederate lackey, and I'm looking forward to U.S. Media to question whether he's qualified to be president of the United States - with the same frothing fervor that they'd questioned President Obama.

(67,782 posts)....Cruz, Rand Paul, and others.
When I saw his address at the IAFF a couple of weeks ago, criticizing his own party's holdup of Homeland Security funds and other important programs, I sent him an email telling him that although we're on complete opposite sides of the political spectrum, I appreciate him sticking up for the country and standing up against his own party members. I also pointed out that although I was born in NYC, I am NOT a constituent of his but wanted to thank him.
Believe it or not, a week ago I got a PERSONAL letter from him with a very nice, handwritten note on it.
THAT is how politicians on both sides should be - we can disagree on policy but we all have to remember that we still are all Americans.

(81,399 posts)Glad you're here! I'm making that point as frequently as I can. He Wasn't Born On American Soil. I don't care how anyone slices or dices it. ted cruz was NOT born on American soil. Therefore he is NOT eligible to run for POTUS.
Now we can split all kinds of hairs here, buying into the "but... but... but..." stuff, how his mom was an American citizen so... but then the other side would have to shut up about Barack Obama, too, because HIS mom was an American citizen TOO. AND she was also white (to further complicate their argument!)! But Barack Obama, unlike ted cruz, WAS born on American soil because Hawaii was a state, and had become our 50th state in 1959, at least a couple of years before President Obama was even BORN. As of yet, I've not seen anything about Canada being annexed or made into a US territory or possession - even retroactively.
And with john mccain, same thing - HE TOO was born ON American soil, even in far distant Panama, because he was born IN the Canal Zone - which was a US territory or possession - I forget which. But US territories and possessions ARE considered US soil. Like the Virgin Islands and Guam and all that.

(469 posts)... our "National" Hockey League has teams from Canadian cities like Montreal, Toronto, Ottowa, Calgary, and Edmundton. If those cities are included in a "National" league, then they must be a part of our NATION, right? That means Canada IS America, and Ted was born in CanadAmerica, so he's American and he can be President - Q.E.D., right?
In a pig's eye!
