CITY OFFICIALS: TWO BODIES RECOVERED FROM SITE OF EAST VILLAGE EXPLOSION

EAST VILLAGE (WABC) -- City officials tell ABC News that two bodies have been discovered in the rubble of an apparent gas explosion that leveled three buildings in Manhattan's East Village.
A spokesperson for the family of Nicholas Figueroa says the family positively identified him, and thanked the community for their help.
The other body that was recovered has not been positively identified yet.

(111,354 posts)I was hoping they were in the hospital, zonked out but expected to recover when they woke up.
Still, it's amazing that even more people didn't die. Those buildings went up fast.

(14,691 posts)I'm speculating that most were at work. I think I read one building was mostly vacant. Still, it's NYC and densely populated. If it had happened at night or on a weekend.... There are still some residents looking for their pets.
I suspect this was no accident based on the latest. One crooked landlord + one crooked contractor = numerous lives disrupted, ruined or lost.

(14,691 posts)They've identified the guy on a date (his date stumbled outside and fell over unconscious on the sidewalk). The other body found has been described as "too mangled" for identification so they're waiting on DNA results.
