'Germanwings passenger video' is authentic, says French magazine
Source: The Guardian
Questions have been raised about the veracity of the video after a senior French police spokesman said the magazines story was false and the French state prosecutor said no video footage had yet featured in the inquiry evidence. The spokesman added that if any film were to exist it should immediately be handed to investigators.
Paris Match stood by its story, written in collaboration with the German newspaper Bild. Neither publication broadcast the footage but instead described the totally blurred and chaotic scenes.

In a video interview on the Paris Match website, Frédéric Helbert, the senior investigative reporter who wrote the story, said he and the editorial team had watched the chilling and moving film dozens of times. He said it had been shot by someone at the back of the plane and did not identify passengers, who were all seated.

The truth will out. But, whatever the ultimate findings, Lufthansa is in deep, deep doo-doo.

"The families of passengers on the doomed jet operated by Deutsche Lufthansa AGs Germanwings will able to seek unlimited recoveries from the carrier because the co-pilot may have deliberately crashed the plane into the French Alps, lawyers said.
The liability for the victims would be uncapped, said George Leloudas, a lecturer at Swansea University College of Law who specializes in aviation law. From the perspective of the airline its difficult. There are no real defenses that you can use. It is irrational. That is why you buy insurance.

Oh, boy...no wonder that Germanwings CEO walked away from his staged PR act, masquerading as a press conference, in the south of France today.
'Your employee crashed a plane...why are you refusing to take questions??', shouted by a reporter as he walked out.

(2,301 posts)the video is indeed likely 'authentic', in that it is a real video of a real flight, but it's likely not from the accident flight.
from the article it says the video contains:
- metallic bangs and rattling
- people crying out 'my god'!
- a sudden, sharp tilt of the camera to one side, followed by more screaming.
Here's a video of an American Airlines flight encountering severe turbulence (note the similarities?)
(warning: definitely a distressing video, but at least everyone made it!)
yeah some asshole likely just edited something off of youtube and conned the magazine...
