(3,112 posts)If the world views John Lennon in his latter years as a progressive liberal feminist, then Cynthia Lennon deserves her fair share of credit for that. During their marriage John was anything but a forward thinker when it came to the fairer sex... and by his own admission in his later life. During his early years and marriage to Cynthia, he was variously a bully, a misogynist, an adulterer, and a chauvinistic pig in the extreme. On Sgt. Pepper John wrote lyrics acknowledging this on the song 'Getting Better' ("I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved, man I was mean but I'm changing my scene and I'm doing the best that I can" but only a few years earlier he wrote songs like "You Can't Do That" and "Run For Your Life", which espoused a very different view of women and relationships. By the time John hooked up with Yoko, she got the broken in model. When he was married to Cynthia, this was anything but the case. To John's credit he changed his views, radically, about women and life in general. He wasn't a saint, but he had evolved a great deal as a husband - and as a father - from his days as Cynthia's partner.
