‘Decertify’ liberal group bashing Patrick Murphy, St. Lucie County Democratic chair urges
Source: Palm Beach Post
Theres a nasty fight within the Florida Democratic Party over Rep. Patrick Murphys establishment-backed 2016 U.S. Senate bid and an official party organization that has been attacking Murphy and urging outspoken liberal Rep. Alan Grayson of Orlando to get in the race.
The Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida, which is chartered as an official branch of the state party and says it has about 200 members, organized a Monday conference call to accuse Murphy of being a Wall Street Democrat who isnt far enough to the left on key issues.
The caucus renewed its attacks Tuesday when Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn joined a growing list of elected Democrats supporting Murphy.
St. Lucie County Democratic Chairwoman Celeste Bush is calling for the Florida Democratic Party to decertify the Democratic Progressive Caucus and to strip one of its leaders, Nancy C. Jacobson, of her status as one of Floridas 10 Democratic National Committee representatives. Bush sent a mass email Tuesday calling it disgraceful for an official party organization to attack a Democratic candidate and to be working so obviously in league with a potential rival.

(14,255 posts)I have seen Rahm's victory spun two ways today.
One take is that we need to accept and support the big-money corporate Dems because this is how to win.
Another take is that the amount of money Rahm needed to spend in order to win means that the big-money corporate Dems should be on notice that they are on their way out.
For me, the second take is hopeful, but I keep reading that Hillary is the choice because she has raised so much corporate money. So - dissonance.
The first take makes me feel like I just should not pay attention to anything any politician does any more; just vote for the "D", and STFU. Nothing to see here, move along.
Neither take makes me feel good about being a Democrat. Warren and Sanders make me feel hopeful, but it seems that the "Centrist" Dems may give some of their ideas lip service, but dismiss them out of hand when it comes to actual policy. Like they are not what the Democratic Party has become. Policy has become unimportant.

(8,846 posts)A good friend of mine, was thrown out of, and beaten up by a pro wrestler, for daring to show up at Hillaryfest (aka, the FDP Convention) with a John Edwards sign. And he was also a progressive Florida Democratic congressional candidate.
No dissent allowed. It's why the Florida Democratic Party is a big bunch of losers.

(2,104 posts)I called his office, so should you. Patrick Murphy will not win this seat.
And, with his record, I don't want him in it either!
I APPLAUD THOSE DEMOCRATS WHO ARE HOLDING THEIR GROUND, TO HAVE A SPIRITED PRIMARY AND CALL OUT ANY FAKE DEMOCRAT WAITING IN THE WINGS.
Thank you!

(154 posts)Let's put pressure on her. Email her and tell her you object to her attempts to quash decent, and to decertify this Democratic
group. If you send an email, she won't know that you don't live in FL.
This is the email I used: 'cooperbush@aol.com', which I obtained here: http://www.saintluciedemocrats.com/

(18,290 posts)if you're not a progressive?
BTW, Murphy is a former Republican, and there's no reason to believe he would have any better chance of beating a Republican than Grayson.

(94,721 posts)first because it's not your website to judge.
second, because it's not exclusively a progressive website. Hence the name DEMOCRATIC Underground. (I believe PROGRESSIVE UNDERGROUND is available if you want to buy it).
FWIW, I've met and supported both of them. Strictly on an evaluation of ability to win, I'm going with Murphy.

(29,853 posts)Grayson was elected in a Republican-leaning district in 2008 (against a scandal-plagued incumbent during a Democratic wave election) in a GOP leaning district but lost in a landslide two years later. He was then elected 2012 in a heavily Democratic district.
I was skeptical of Murphy when he first ran, but he has proven me wrong. He voted with the Democratic Caucus the vast majority of the time.
