LINCOLN The latest effort to expand Medicaid coverage for more low-income Nebraskans is dead for this year.
Nebraska lawmakers voted 28-16 Wednesday afternoon to bracket, or table, Legislative Bill 472 until the last day of the session.
State Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha offered the bracket motion after a test vote made it clear that the measure lacked enough support to advance. Chambers, who supports Medicaid expansion, said the move keeps the bill alive for consideration next year.
On the test vote, 24 senators opposed the measure and only 22 supported it.
