N. Korea: 'Mobile weapons' capable of striking US
Source: AP
PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) -- A senior North Korean army official says his country is armed with "powerful mobile weapons" capable of striking America.
Vice Marshal Ri Yong Ho emphasized the importance of defending the North against the U.S. and South Korea as Pyongyang marked the 80th anniversary of the nation's army Wednesday.
He told officials at the April 25 House of Culture that the weapons could defeat the U.S. "at a single blow."
North Korea made another unusual claim Monday, promising "special actions" that would reduce Seoul's government to ashes.
North Korea is believed to have nuclear weapons but not the technology to put them on long-range missiles. A rocket launch that the U.S. claimed was a North Korean attempt to test missile technology failed this month.

(2,682 posts)That was funny! I can just picture one of our heavily decorated generals arriving in N. Korea asking for "terms".
In all seriousness, it's not a bad idea, really. We need to pay attention to NK because they are a starving nation with too much national pride and too much veneration of its dear leader. What they want is a seat at the table (so to speak) and they are not capable of garnering attention through diplomacy or good works, so they resort to threats and displays of arms (think a 3-year old stomping his feet and throwing things). Instead of cutting off food aid which only harms the general population and does nothing to the leadership, we should double, no, triple food aid and make sure it gets to the people, not the generals who will sell in on the black market in order to make deposits in their Swiss bank accounts. I think a treaty offering food for nuclear monitoring would be the best approach. Clinton as on to this and of course, Bush trashed that and we can see the results.

Youth Vow to Become 5 Million Human Bullets and Bombs
Pyongyang, April 24 (KCNA) -- Youth and students held a meeting at the Youth Park Open-air Theatre in Pyongyang on Tuesday to vow to beat to death the group of rat-like Lee Myung Bak, the sworn enemy... (i.e. the President of South Korea)
At a time when the whole mankind is unsparing of its admiration and praise of celebrations of the Day of the Sun as they fully demonstrated the invincible might of Songun Korea and the true picture of single-minded unity, the group of rat-like Lee Myung Bak perpetuated without hesitation such hideous provocations as daring hurt the dignity of the supreme leadership of the DPRK...
Once the Supreme Commander of the KPA issues an order, the youth and students will become 5 million human bullets and bombs to deal retaliatory blows of justice to cut off the windpipes of rat-like group at a single strike and accomplish the historic cause of national reunification.
A resolution of revenge was adopted at the meeting.
(Wow... The whole of mankind, eh? I must have slept through that party. Bummer. I do so love a good 'bash'.)

(6,801 posts)that's really difficult because too many and it breaks, which is really annoying. Too few and it winds up in the middle of the pacific and everyone laughs at you.
This is big, they've closed the rubber band gap.
Our only is a strong westward wind. Or they forget and leave it outside too long so the rubber gets all brittle.

That said, I don't think they have any intention of doing so, or of "reducing Seoul to ashes". Sounds like their typical bluster - maybe a little more ramped up because of their new leader. Still, I don't think they're stupid enough to do something like that.
