Ricci heiress convicted of tax fraud

Source: BBC

The heir to the Nina Ricci perfume and fashion house has been convicted of tax fraud by a Paris court after hiding millions in an offshore HSBC account.

Arlette Ricci, 73, was sentenced to a year in prison and ordered to pay a €1 million (£720,000;$1.1m) fine.

The court also confiscated two properties worth four million euros (£2.9m;$4.2m).

HSBC's Swiss private banking arm is being investigated after a leak revealed large scale tax fraud.

Why for so many people, it's not enough to be fabulously wealthy. They have to be outrageously wealthy.

It's not that they want to be fabulously wealthy, or outrageously wealthy.

The truly Filthy Rich have two traits in common.

They never want to pay for ANYTHING. If they must pay for something, they want to pay less for it than the person who has it now did.

And they demand that a certain percentage of the populace live in the worst kind of poverty imaginable.

The sickest part of it all: you don't have to be rich to be Filthy Rich.

And while we're at it, let's go after HSBC and its drug money laundering--

Bank of America, Western Union, and JP Morgan, are among the institutions allegedly involved in the drug trade. Meanwhile, HSBC has admitted its laundering role, and evaded criminal prosecution by paying a fine of almost $2 billion. The lack of imprisonment of any bankers involved is indicative of the hypocritical nature of the drug war; an individual selling a few grams of drugs can face decades in prison, while a group of people that tacitly allow -- and profit from -- the trade of tons, escape incarceration.

This sums up the gross hypocrisy of our "justice system"--an individual selling a few grams of drugs can face decades in prison, while a group of people that tacitly allow -- and profit from -- the trade of tons, escape incarceration.

I saw Ricci and thought of the actress Christina Ricci -- who was great in Sleepy Hollow and both Addam's Family movies

As to the actual story, one year in prison is too short. I don't care how old she is. She's been profiting off her illegal activities for longer than a year. And the fine is a drop in the bucket.
Until these stingy uber wealthy twits start getting real jail time, they are not going to stop
