Blue Bell recalls all products due to health risk
Source: WFAA - ABC
Blue Bell Ice Cream on Monday issued a voluntary recall for all of its products because of a possible health risk found in half gallon containers of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream produced on March 17 and March 27.
Known to millions as "the little creamery in Brenham," the Texas company explained its decision in a news release issued just before 9 p.m.
The recall includes products made at the company's Brenham plant as well as its facility in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. According to Blue Bell's statement, its ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and frozen snacks:

(66,369 posts)I remember when my family 'discovered' Blue Bell ice cream. We were living in Houston at the time. We thought we'd died and gone to Heaven.
I don't know how they do it, but their Old-Fashioned Vanilla tastes just like it was made in one of those old hand-cranked ice cream freezers.

(60,010 posts)The original recalls were for specific kinds of the ice cream, and did not include the big tubs.
One of which I have sitting in the freezer.

(60,010 posts)They have a vanilla that is made with real sugar
and one that is made with HFC
and I keep forgetting which is which.
In any case, there is a new tub in the freezer, most likely without lysteria....
Think I will let Mr. Dixie eat some first.

(3,051 posts)Called 'Krusey Village" (or some such -- it's their name) at a tremendous loss. Apparently most of the proceeds of Blue Bell go to subsidizing the services of the home. Apparently, their goal was to make sure normal "non-rich" retirees without family support could have a safe and nice place to live.
Anyway, I'm old and have come to appreciate people who look out for the elderly. I'm blessed to have many loving daughters and granddaughters (and a grandson who has come to live with me), but a lot of people are not.
So I wish them well and hope this gets sorted out quickly.

I hope the vet gets her due, and I hope Blue Bell gets back on its feet and up and running past this crisis. Brenham really is a quaint little town.

(480 posts)Mad at a vet for killing a cat, not mad at Blue Bell for torturing cows. The dairy industry is extremely cruel.

(18,652 posts)seriously, between Big Ag, factory farms, factory-produced foods and agrotoxins applied to our food/animal feed, the food industry is poisoning us.
I eat 100% organic, buying from local farm markets, a bit from the supermarket, and online. I also have a garden space at our organic community garden. It's not that difficult to find or grow yourself if you've got garden space.

(18,652 posts)whose farm was inspected by a food shop owner I also know, who vouched for the farmer.
When this farmer says his chickens are pasture/farm yard raised and organic, I believe him. I also trust that there's no salmonella--- I've been buying chicken and eggs for a year from this farmer and so far no illness.
Point is, it's best to know who you're buying from. I realize that people in cities can't know the farmer down the road, but everyone should be checking into where their food is coming from. There are plenty of farm markets in cities, too, where you can ask q's of the farmers.

That's my story.
