Union, Marathon back at the bargaining table

Source: Houston Chronicle

By L.M. Sixel

Negotiators from the United Steelworkers union and Marathon Petroleum Corp. met Monday in the latest effort to resolve lingering contract issues.

Marathon on April 9 provided its "last, best and final" contract offer, but it was rejected by union negotiators, Marathon spokesman Jamal Kheiry said. Details of the proposal were not available.

The union has requested additional information and is waiting for its questions to be answered, said Lee Medley, president of the United Steelworkers Local 13-1. The union has had several membership meetings to outline the offer, he said.

The 1,100 union-represented workers have been on strike since Feb. 1.
